You know what I hate most of all? JUNE BUGS! My hair is a magnet for them. I know, they can't hurt you but they DO make you slap yourself in face and on the head
Plus, my evil grandchildren used to throw them at me or tell me one was in my hair when it really wasn't.
This reminds me of the evening my grandmother and I were sitting on her front porch. She was rocking and knitting - she always wore her hair held back in 2 combs. Well, she kept pushing the one comb back because it wouldn't stay back. After a time I heard her say, Oh, No!!! I jumped up and said, what's wrong? She said I've been pushing my comb back when I felt it wasn't my comb at all, it was a Junebug I kept pushing into my hair!!! I'm sure he wanted "out" but she kept pushing him back in. Yuk, I'll never forget that and everytime I hear the word Junebug I think about it.

@monicakm wrote:We live in the country. I have found nothing keeps bugs out of my house better than this. If something does slip in (rarely) it's a black beetle-type bug and they are found dead by the back door. Yes, I know it has chemicals. I spray it around the front and back doors and the perimeter of the patio. Of course this isn't for no-see-ums. I'm going spray it right now since my internet speed is a problem right now.
@monicakm Here in South Carolina, we use that too...but it doesn't last for a year! DH sprays the outside perimeter of the house approximately every 3-4 months--as soon as we start seeing bugs again. It's the best thing we've found for keeping Palmetto bugs out of the house.

The no see-ums haven't been as bad this summer for us but then I have not spent much time in this heat. It was still 99 degrees last night at 10:00 when I thought I could go out to my patio and water some plants. I have no idea how to keep them away, I just bathe iin "itchy cream" aka Benadryl cream when I come inside. We haven't had any mosquitos at all so far but it's only August....

I don't know why I haven't heard or felt any mosquitos this summer. Might have something to do with staying in the house (g)
Funny story. When I was a child/teen, I was allergic to mosquito bites. If I had a mosquito bite on my leg, my entire leg could swell. I used to get shots for it. So one night I heard a mosquito in my bedroom. I jumped up, ran to my parent's room and said "Dad! There is a mosquito in my bedroom. Do something!" He said not to worry, the only mosquitos that bite are the ones you can't hear". Whew! I went back to bed only to jump up a few minutes later, running back to my parent's room and said "Dad! I don't hear any mosquitos. Do something!"
