You can't be more off base and are just using that as an excuse to stay in.
There are plenty of five star restaurants, inns, yacht clubs, boutique hotels that are classy and elegant and far from a bunch of drunks partying the night away in Margaritaville
True, there are plenty of places to celebrate, however, ALL of you are on the roads together going back home.

Holidays mean much less to me these days. I have been invited to two parties. However, flu is pretty rampant here in our neck of the woods and at T'giving I had a fever for a few days, then a sore throat for a week followed by 5 weeks of coughing. I went to the doctor's twice and just getting back to normal after two visits to doctor.
This year I'm opting to stay here alone, fire in the fireplace and actually look forward to that..

I'm going to be at home where it's nice and warm. Our weather is extremely cold(for us) with a dusting of snow and lots of wind. Right now it's 32* at my house with howling wind. If this wind doesn't calm down, there will be no fireworks on the 'strip' tonight for the 340,000 people forecast to be here in LV for NYE. I'm sure the 'strip' will be loaded with half naked drunk doofuses parading around in the bitter cold but feeling no pain. They can have it.

I used to go out every New Year's Eve with my husband....when the kids were home we used to take them with us. Usually some kind of a house party. Now we are just happy to ring in the New Year in front of the television cuddling on the couch.
Thankfully, he's good company.

I'm going to a dinner party with friends. The host's birthday is also today, so it's a double celebration.
I'll be spending the night at thefriends' house, so I won't have to worry about driving late tonight.

Not much of a NYE partier. I'm going to meet some friends for lunch and then come home and watch hockey. First up is USA vs Canada in the World Junior Championships, followed by the Red Wings game. I don't watch the parades or football on New Years Day, but have found that the mall is pretty quite and I can get some great deals so I'll probably participate in some retail therapy.

I never did anything on NY Eve, even when I was in my longest relationship, we just spent the evening at my house relaxing.
I always made a big dinner on NY Day though and we invited friends and family over, just as I always did on Sundays.
No one has picked up the mantle for that though and I'm not criticizing them, their lives are very busy and their homes very small, not enough room for big celebrations.
ETA: I have always loved Michener's books and Hawaii is my favorite also. He had a "method," like all writers, but it was a great one. His research on the locations he wrote about was something I've never seen matched.

Usually my husband and I have steaks and potatoes and rent a couple of good movies, however this year we are babysitting our 2 year old granddaughter. Fun!!!!!!!!

Sounds good to me; we're going to be staying in with enjoying our warm and toasty fireplace and of course, some cuddling on the loveseat.

We are going to get all dressed up in tuxes and gowns. It will be nice. We are all looking forward to it. It will be me, my husband, my daughter, SIL, grandson, mom, sister, niece and brother in law.
On NY day we have reservations at the spa for massages and facials.
Irshgrl, sounds wonderful and wishing you a great time. It's fun getting all dressed up; be sure to take some pictures. The spa sounds great; wish I could join you?
Hope you are feeling much better and how is Ginger doing? We took down our tree, etc. yesterday as we are adopting a new puppy on NY day.
