i go crazy hearing( usually the younger crowd) using the word like in their conversation. Like, why do they like do that ?

@Momofdogs - It takes the place of "ummm" or "uh".  Some people find it difficult to speak without a filler word.  It's either that they're uncomfortable with a moment of silence or afraid that someone else will jump into the gap.

That use of like has been around since the 1980's.  I dont hear it as much anymore.

@Momofdogs I hear a lot of people over 40 who use it a lot and it gets on my last nerve.

@Momofdogs  It's definitely a habit. It can be broken, but you need to work at it.
