i go crazy hearing( usually the younger crowd) using the word like in their conversation. Like, why do they like do that ?

@Momofdogs - It takes the place of "ummm" or "uh". Some people find it difficult to speak without a filler word. It's either that they're uncomfortable with a moment of silence or afraid that someone else will jump into the gap.
That's just my opinion, of course.

That use of like has been around since the 1980's. I dont hear it as much anymore.
