Re: How Old Is Your Refrigerator?

We had a GE Monogram that was 19 years old and stopped cooking . The motherboard had to be replaced, which is the entire computer system that operates the whole thing. $1800. We liked the fridge so paid the money. One year later, needed another one....got rid of it when it quit while we were out of town for the weekend. Had to find a new one fast and it was a  Samsung, the only thing we could find fast that would fit into the weird space we have in our kitchen. Never again. I would rather find an old Kenmore.

Main kitchen fridge is 6 years old.   Overflow fridge in my TV room is 2 months old.   Garage fridge is about 10 years old.   Upright freezer is at least 21 years old.

Re: How Old Is Your Refrigerator?

That photo is the exact fridge that was in our house when we bought it 8 years ago.  I think it was here since the beginning of time, at least until 1974 or so.  It sounded like an airplane taking off half the time and didn't keep things very cold, so it went bye bye. Fortunately, our electric company took it away and gaves us a brand new one.  Not top of the line by any stretch of the imagine, but free is free.  Well, sort of.  Our electric bills prove otherwise.  (sigh)

Re: How Old Is Your Refrigerator?

Yesterday the GE repair man came out for the gas dryer that I brought in 2013. I had told them over the phone the dial wasn't working, it's the timer dial.  I had brought it from this company in town. Now they knew what I was talking about.

Now in looking at it, he said, yes you are right, and we have an easy way to fix it.

He said, if I order it, it will cost you at least 60 for the part, another 85 dollars for me to come back out and replace it and labor, but i can save you money.

He proceeded to go on his phone to help me order part.  His phone would not pull it up, so i brought out my ipad and he showed me what to click on to order. Well, that didn't work, so we went on Amzon.

Now he was in his late 50's and didn't know how to work the Ipad to find the part, but me in my 85 years showed him. He was talking so fast, i was losing confidence in him, but he showed me the one on Amazon for 9.99. Looks just like mine. I ordered it.  I said, don't you need to find the model number?

No, no he said, that is the right one and you just slip it on the machine where old timer was and that's it.  He said it would cost you another 85 for me to come out and do it.

I said, why didn't you have the part on the truck, because I told the office what was wrong. We don't carry parts he said.

OK, in the meantime, he took off the on and off knob, put it where the timer knob would be and the dryer worked, except it doesn't turn on or off, so i timed my drying.

My problem is, when i went back after he left to look at what he had me order, it doesn't look like it's for my model, though it looks like the same part.  He insisted it was the right part.

It is suppose to come in Friday the 10th.

He also said, the machines that sell now usually don't last more than 5 years.  i had insurance on it and the washer, but took it off this year because I figured what is the chance being somewhat new, I could not with my income pay for all the insurances i have.

This man seem like he was high on something.  I could be very wrong, and will post back after part comes in.

Does anyone know how to return to Amazon if it is the wrong part?

I wish we lived in the world I grew up in where CS was good.
