Re: How My Shopping Changed in 10 Years

I used to go to the mall almost every weekend. Even if it was just to look around. I had a job but it never required me to wear anything other than jeans, tee and whatever shoes I wanted so I didn't have closets full of dresses and heels but I looked anyway. I used to love to go the Scottsdale Fashion Square and wander around but the last time I was there most of the reasonably priced stores have been replaced with higher end stores like Gucci, a fancy watch store etc. so I quite going. I live 5 minutes from a mall and if I do go it's to run into Macys or Dillards and that's it. During Covid the stores started opening later (like Dillards, opens at 11:00) and I don't want to go out that late in the heat so I just order online. I still go to Kohls, Target, Walmart and Costco on a regular basis. Amazon is my friend.

Re: How My Shopping Changed in 10 Years

The amount of what I shop for has changed  but nothing else.

Unless there is a health reason I cannot imagine not going into a store....I buy very little on line.  I still go to the mall, shop my local grocery and drug stores.

I purchase less only because I am not in need of much for my house any longer unless something really catches my eye.

I am 68 and working just 3 days a week, my wardrobe is much more casual and most of my clothes are in good shape.

My friends and I used to shop, have lunch about 1x a month...we have not done that in quite a while...now they enjoy getting groceries together, ugh...I never go.  I don't need company to get my groceries.

@Sooner Same here.  Amazon and other stores.  Our Williams Sonoma closed along with Tuesday Morning - others as well.  I don't buy from the Q like I did I the past.  I'm okay with that.

As we are now retired, I don't have a need to constanty buy things.  It's liberating.

I no longer need the clothing that I needed when I was working in the office so I only buy a few things and even that is done very seldom. I need some pajamas but will need to go in person for them, I need to feel the fabric. Most everything else is from Amazon other than groceries.

I haven been to the mall or a grocery store since the start of the pandemic.  The only stores I've visited are the UPS  Store for mailing and a jewelry store for a change of watch battery.

I now have everything delivered; Walmart, Amazon, QVC and a few others.  My new hobby and leisure-time activity is breaking down cardboard boxes for the recycling bin.  It's  like laundry, I never get caught up.

@Kachina624 Amen!  AMEN!  Especially breaking down boxes!  I am GOOD with a box knife I can say!  And I have been in the Post Office to throw something in the slot since criminals started breaking into the outside boxes.  And the bank.  Once.

I don't buy any jeans/pants or shorts from QVC.  They are all pull ups.  I hate them.  I much prefer the button zipper closure.  QVC will not change. Nearly all the brands are like this.  Candace Buri still have zipper closures.  But I think she's the only one.  Most women (especially retired women demand it...like the elbow length sleeve, long tops, etc.) So I get alternative styles at the mall stores.  I've cut back on clothes shopping. I used to love clothes shopping (at the mall) but I watch my money more then I used to.

I think I'll go to Home Depot and get a CROWBAR.       di

@Desertdi I fought with one of those yesterday!  I cussed at it and it still did no good.  Brute force I'll say.  Didn't know I had it in me!  Cat Mad

Re: How My Shopping Changed in 10 Years

I retired in 2014, so I don't need to shop for "work" clothes any more.

When I venture out, it's pretty much just to Church 3 times a week, and two of those days, I dress casually - While I have plenty of "dress" clothes for Sundays, I will pick up a couple of new pieces every year (for the summer and the winter time).

However, they usually come from Amazon or some other online clothier.

Re: Grocery shopping - I prefer to see, touch, and smell my own food.

I tried having groceries delivered one time (during Covid), and I was totally disappointed at the "substitutions" and the quality of the produce that was selected for me, so Never Again!

No DoorDash or Uber Eats, etc. - On the rare occasions we "eat out" now, we'll do a Curbside Pickup, bring it home, and eat in our Pajamas (LOL)

@songbird I demanded pull up pants for non work wear except for jeans, which I can pull down without unzipping if I do it right, for a very long time.

I also have always loved 3/4 sleeves because they don't get wet when I wash dishes or hands, or creep down when I play the piano!  I LOVE them!
