How My Shopping Changed in 10 Years

How about you?  Think back 10 years to what you did.  Has your life changed?  Mine has astonishingly and I'm happy with it.

I was thinking just now that what I used to buy reliably at QVC I now look for at LL Bean, Land's End and Old Navy.  No QVC cooking stuff for me either--don't need or what what they are selling now.

Haven't even thought about Dillards in many years, Talbots has the sizes I wear that have a standard fit for me, no alterations, few returns, no in-store hours looking and trying on!

I used to buy lots at Williams-Sonoma, then our store closed so I rarely look there on line--but bought one pot just last week online.

I don't care to go to the mall any more, but look on line and find what I need.  No HomeGoods (don't want more "stuff"), no TJ Maxx (also don't need what they have).

Amazon for routine things: doorstops, spatulas, bowl covers, good vinegars, books, kindle books, measuring cups, markers, hangers, good tuna and sardines, chopper, etc.  Some from Costco and Sams!  And no time spent in store, parking, driving to, etc.

Groceries: Pickups and deliveries!

How did I find time to do all this 10 years ago--and I worked?  I now have the luxury of NOT doing all that!

We order a LOT more online.  Used to love going to the local malls but now they are pretty much deserted--so sad.  Don't go physically into any store much anymore.  I miss the experience.

Brava, @Sooner !

Me, too!

What I do not do anymore is decorate differently for this or that occasion/season. The house is the house, and I like what I have.

Also, my jewelry tastes have changed and I already have the pieces I love & wear! (Some I love, but just don't wear for one reason or another.)

Never really did get clothing from Q. (to talk about)

I grab some things from A, if I want them quickly.

But I still go to the grocery store.

I shop online for the most part. I work with the public and prefer not to in my personal life. I use self-checkout whenever possible so I don't have to make chit-chat. I do hit up my happy places, Home Goods, Hobby Lobby, Costco, Sam’s Club etc. I try to go when I know they are not busy so I don't have to deal with people. Some good things came with Covid. Best Buy is a great example, I order pull up to the curb, pop the trunk, my order is loaded  and away I go.

My actual shopping habits have no changed over the years. I still buy clothes, home decor etc.

I haven been to the mall or a grocery store since the start of the pandemic.  The only stores I've visited are the UPS  Store for mailing and a jewelry store for a change of watch battery.

I now have everything delivered; Walmart, Amazon, QVC and a few others.  My new hobby and leisure-time activity is breaking down cardboard boxes for the recycling bin.  It's  like laundry, I never get caught up.

Re: How My Shopping Changed in 10 Years

I would have to say that many things have changed for me.  I used to go out shopping with my daughter.  She moved away, so I don't really enjoy going in stores alone and just browsing anymore.  Not the same as having her with me.  Our mall is dismal also.  It has too many memories of years gone by with my children and friends and family that it makes me sad to walk those halls now.

I too, have most of any decor, pillows, candles, bed linens etc., to continue buying those items.   I will continue for as long as possible to go in person to the grocery stores unless it becomes completely unsafe to do so for any number of reasons.   If I don't, I will definitely turn into a hermit because I am already an introvert by nature.

Re: How My Shopping Changed in 10 Years

I guess I've changed my shopping habits somewhat.  I truly think we can run out of things to buy!   I bought way too many items over the years especially clothing, some I sadly never even wore and ended up donating.   Now I don't buy it unless I really love it and can't get it out of my head.   I have taken myself off many an email list so I don't get tempted with coupons or sales anymore.  I do use Amazon also but still go buy my own groceries, did it all through Covid too.  I like to pick out my own stuff.

@Kachina624      OH.....those CARTONS with the sealed flaps!!!!   WHAT do they glue them with????

I have a "fireman's screwdriver"...and I have to huff and puff...practically dislocate my shoulder...and it takes a half-hour of struggling to get those things open.

I think I'll go to Home Depot and get a CROWBAR.       di
