Re: How My Shopping Changed in 10 Years

Ten years ago I was working so I bought more clothing from QVC. Now I'm still wearing those items because they are better quality than what is offered now.  I don't particularly care if they are out of style.

I don't know about you but looking at empty malls is depressing for me.

Its nice to get out of the house.  I don't buy much either but if I need something I look locally before hitting up the big A.

What local stores? We don't have anything but CVS and supermarkets in a suburb of New York. No clothing stores for years.

We have plenty of malls which I far prefer to on line shopping. Amazon is great for some things but I still prefer the human interaction of shopping in person and actually seeing what I am buying...

Re: How My Shopping Changed in 10 Years

Ten years ago I was shopping and buying a lot more clothing. I was still working, and I wanted a variety of things to wear. After retiring I sold and donated some of my work wardrobe, but I kept my favorite pieces and still wear those from time to time for church and nicer occasions.

One thing that hasn't changed in ten years is I still love to go shopping. A few of my favorite stores have closed, but I'd still rather shop in person then online. I like to see details, feel fabrics, and try things on before buying. I have bought a few things online, but it's not my preference.

Nope, not at all.

I use the 1-year Rule: If I haven't worn it since the last time I changed out my closet (from Spring & Summer clothes to Fall & Winter apparel), then I donate or give it away.

I have just a handful of "sentimental" pieces/items that I keep which were gifts from family or friends who are now deceased.

I might suggest trying the Jockey store if there is one around for pj's.  I have had good luck with SOMA Cool Nights PJ's that surprisingly are nice on the body.  Used to have an outlet where I got reasonably but now have to find on sale online.  😟. Another shopping chore rather than pkeasure.

Absolutely hate getting rid of clothes that I don't need but that I have loved.  I remember the joy of finding a special dress, the pleasure of accessorizing and wearing.  Guess I hold out hope for opportunity to need again.  Its a big issue for me. I also remember buying and its cost!

Ditto!  I sure get it.  I used to have so many friends, I couldn't hardly keep up with them all!

I have several things hanging in my closet that I have not worn for a while but the fabric is so nice and a cute design, I have trouble sending them to donation.

@Mom2Dogs - no, no problems letting go of unworn or unused items for me.  I have no problem purging things.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

@gidgetgh    Purging house hold, decor items that I don't use, no problem. I just took 3 boxes to the donation center this week.    Clothing is something else, especially my better items.
