NJ Capital: Trenton

Interesting facts: Cape May is the oldest seashore resort in the US, has the most diners, Honey Bee is the State bug, some of the many entertainers, etc: Frank Sinatra, Bruce Springstreen, Jon BonJovi, Whitney Huston, Jack Nicholson and many more

NJ here too!  The only state with NO Song but it has been suggested "Born to Run". There was something we sang at one time "I'm from NJ" but it was never adapted.

we have 108 toxic waste dumps, most in US

first Indian tribe settled in NJ

First baseball game in Hoboken

First intercollegiate football game - RU Vs Princeton

Tourism our second largest industry

we have the largest number of resort towns....you can't beat our NJ Shore....Cape May being the oldest

First to legalize gambling in AC

lets not forget Edison and Menlo Park

we are the largest petroleum containment location outside of the Middle East

we have the largest seaport in the US, Elizabeth

our motto....liberty and prosperity....

not a fact but opinion only- we have good hearted, hard working people and I love my State, the good, the bad and the ugly!   We are close to NYC, NY being my second favorite state and good neighbor....

@SilleeMee,

Oh yes! Please come visit. Oh and go up by Traverse City (talked about that on another thread this week too).  I love this state for it's beauty. Just love it!  It you go up by the bridge, you need to visit the island while you're at it.  Remember the movie, that has the Grand Hotel in it?  That's where that's at!! Horse and buggys, and bikes, no cars. Talk about FUDGE!! Holy smokes!! Ya gotta have some of that!!

Didn't even mention the lighthouses!!!

The Square Dance?  I was born and raised in Jersey and never saw the square dance until I moved South.  And I'm from South Jersey with all the farmland.  Other than the Tarantella and the Polka, there were no folk dances in any of my family's houses. Where did we get that from?

I know that my state is almost the 6th leading economy in the world.

It was the 8th, now it's almost 6th, only 5 COUNTRIES in the world have a greater economy than California.

My state is Indiana.  If you want to add anything interesting about your state that people might not know that might be fun, too!

Jubilant, before I sign off and head out for the day I wanted to give you props for doing this thread.  I have learned a great deal about other states and enjoyed thinking back to my elementary days of learning about Texas.  Thanks again for a great day on the board.
