Texas:

Mockingbird;

Bluebonnet;

Texas our Texas.

The original Dallas Cowboy football stadium was built without the roof so that God could watch his favorite team play.  I grew up on that statement and believed with all my young girl's heart.

I do love Texas and I always felt sorry for the rest of the nation who could not live here with us

@beckyb1012 ~ hey girl, wow...I was thinking about you and wondering how're you doing, and there you are!  Texas gal huh?  Never been, but would love to some day...I replied to this post about Alaska, where I live now.  I'm originally from NY though...have you ever been?

No but I have always dreamed about going to both states.  I am such a homebody.  I usually get sick (sinus infection) when I come back to Texas if I leave.  I learned the hard way when we were transferred away from East Texas for two years to limit my travels.  Took years of allergy shots to get back where I could live and love my state again.  So great to hear from you and see your name.

P.S. I also want to go to London someday too!!

Aw, that's sad...I don't hate living where I am, but my heart's not in it for sure...I'm originally from NY and don't care about going back there (now), gone too long.  One day, sooner than later, I'd love to live in a warmer climate and be by the beach.  I grew up by the water and miss it lots!

Oh brother, you mean we have allergies in common too?😩💨

My allergies were (are) bad no matter where I live and have lived or visited here or abroad...I do better by the ocean though!  Hopefully one day,  I'll find myself living in a warmer climate and taking strolls by the shoreline.  I grew up by the water and miss it a lot.

Heres to travels and dreams!

@AKgirl2 - you said you were from NY and loved the water - are you from the LI area or Lake region? I'm originally from NJ

Great thread @jubilant!

State Bird:  Cardinal

State Tree: White Oak

State Flower:  Native Violet

State Song:  Illinois

And on my way to looking these things up I found:

State Amphibian:  Eastern Tiger Salamander . . . Smiley Happy

@momtochloe I didn't know any of the other stuff, but I immediately starting singing "By thy rivers gently flowing, Illinois, Illinois...".  Probably close to 50 years since the last I had to sing that lol

I didn't put in an interesting fact about Indiana so here it is:  Baseball was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.  The first professional game was played there, May 4, 1871

  I also just read that Indiana is called the Mother of Vice Presidents.....hmmm....interesting.  LOL.

Oh thank you @VanSleepy!  I still remember the song so well because as a child we were taught to learn it so this thread really brought back great memories . . . Smiley Happy

And may I add, I would LOVE to visit the boardwalk in New Jersey!  I watch a ton of FN programs that highlight many businesses, it just looks like such a great place to spend a day (or in my case) three . . . Smiley Happy

Re: How Much Do You Know About Your State?

I know the most common nickname for my state but i have no idea about the bird or the flower, etc.  Given what I see around me, I know what I think they should be, but a state is large and all those designations are political anyway, so I'd have to Google if I needed to know.

I do know the names of my state senators and my rep in Congress and I do know my state rep as well as my city council president and most of the time, I can go to vote without having to ask where my polling place got to.  It's a new state for me, so sometimes I'm still flabbergasted by how different the procedures from where I lived most of my adult life.
