@Johnnyeager: Most Kohl's locations in the NY metro area are in suburban locations. I checked, and there are a few in Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island.

I have never understood the appeal of Kohl’s.

I didn't think there were any in Manhattan....but since Target has set up shop near Macy's, maybe someday Kohlh's would move in too.....

I love to shop at Kohl’s. My store is neat and orderly, except for a few areas in the shoe department. My store is well staffed too. Never much of a wait to check out even on busy days and times.
As to the the quality of their clothing, I think it depends on the garment and the brand. The Chaps brand and the TekGear brand are nice. I have some basic core pieces from Kohl’s that I have worn often for a few years and they are still in great shape. I think the overall quality of clothing at all stores is not what it used to be.
I have never had anyone follow me in the store to ask me about opening a charge or coupons. I would hate that and I would tell them so. I get some really good prices with my discounts and coupons and Kohl’s cash. I like that they can be used on clearanced items too.

I really think Kohl's has been making it through because they make the customer "Feel" like they are getting a deal. They seem to be offering a Kohl's cash every single week instead of once a month as it was in the past. This alone makes me think they are not doing as well as the article indicates. Signs posted throughout the store advertise 50-60% off, when if you look at the price the original price is quite high. Getting 30% off with your Kohl's charge makes some people rush into the store.
Kohl's is the only apparel retailer in my town and I rarely shop there because there aren't as many deals as they advertise. Yes on clearance you can find deals but that is not the norm throughout the store.

Our Kohls is outside our mall area but not that far. I never really liked it, the set up inside. But recently I was looking for a packable down coat for my hubby to use for travel. These jackets are quickly bought up and if you buy them online they are often way too small. I believe they are coming from countries that do not understand our sizing. In any case after finally just about giving up I went online to look at Kohls and I found something that seemed OKAY. I decided we would actually go into their real store. I found the product but it was the wrong size. A sales person immediately stepped up and helped me order on line at a kiosk. The package came in a week later. The down inside the package had literally exploded and I was very upset. I called their main number and they helped me. Said they would send out a new one immediately. IT ARRIVES TOMORROW.
I was soooo happy with the customer service. Amazing. No questions, no need to return the original jacket. Great experience. Happy happy shopper.

Kohls does have a great Customer Service philosophy. Great return policy and all cashiers are empowered to help customers. Not saying there won't be some bad experiences but the corporation on a whole has done a great job.

@tansy...I wonder if it is dependent upon where you live. The store we have within 5 minutes is not well kept and the clothing is not particularly nice. Shoes are in boxes, self-serve. The linens dept is a nightmare where it appears no one ever bothers to clean it up.
I haven't been there in about 2 years when I went looking for curtains. I highly doubt I will be back.

absolutely love kohls and so happy to have one near me that is not in a mall and has very open parking lot.
i like their 30% off coupons, like their sales, like the layout of the store, like some of the brands, love their home section. great lingerie/loungewear selection. easy place to run in and buy a gift card for numerous stores OTHER than kohls. returns are easy and fair. clean ladies room. great for kids clothing. also great for items from your favorite sports team.
