I also use the heart as a "like" or agree with a post or if I enjoyed what the OP wrote. Seems to be a lot of fuss over this little heart button.

I heart posts when I agree with them or want to acknowledge someone who has responded to my post. (and I feel another response by me would be redundant)

It is more likely that the person that posted checked the do not allow hearts button to the right of the message box that shows when posting a message.
Do you see hearts on other posts?
No I don't.
ETA: I went into my prefernces and the box to hide them was hidden. I guess I did that sometime. Probably the first day when I didn't understand much about this new board. LOL
