Now I have seen everything.
On this update show, the husband was looking for a house that was within walking distance of church, because he feels more comfortable walking barefoot.

ITA. I get so disgusted watching it sometimes, have to turn it off. Have we become so spoiled rotten these days. We are so special we need the best of everything immediately.
It isn't that they won't be allowed to change anything, it's that they are too LAZY to do it. They expect others to do it for them. Drives me nuts.
I may not be able to sell our house ever, cause I'm not repainting for the buyers, not putting hardwood all over the house, not putting stainless and granite in the kitchen and I'm definitely not paying THEIR closing costs! They will have to save their money up and do it themselves. Oh well.

I can only take so much of that show. LOL

Before it's mentioned, let me say that I know the show is scripted and staged. But the attitudes are very real. Recently had some young relatives out looking for their first home. No kids and no plans for any right away. They referred to this being their "starter" home. 8 rooms, 3000 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 3 baths and an acre of land. Absolutely gorgeous place that most people would hope to get after maybe 20 years of wishing and hoping. They've taken on an enormous mortgage (the banks will give them to you but it doesn't mean it's a wise decision on your part). They'll be house poor but they have what they want when they want it which is how their parents (especially hers) raised them. And, yes, the beautiful country kitchen had to be immediately gutted for hardwoods and granite!

I not sure how these young people can afford $500,000 on up houses, on their first house purchase.

After I posted, I saw that they lived in Toledo, OH. Really? You base your home's location on whether you can walk barefoot to church during two seasons in a year?

OMG - 4 years ago when we were selling our house I could have written these exact words. We were very fortunate and found a middle age couple who understood to look at the important things like we had replaced the roof, the windows , the heat pump and had remodeled the kitchen and baths. All the young couples who looked at our house and put feedback on our realtors website were upset that there was no hardwood or granite or a totally finished basement. That house was listed at 179,500. If we had done all that stuff it would have been far out of their price range. But - that is what they see on HGTV so they think even the cheapest house has all the newest and most expensive appointments.
