@Lipstickdiva wrote:@Mominohio, did you get frost last night? I saw on the news that there was a frost warning but I thought it said it was inland, south of us, and east of Cleveland.
I'm not sure how cold it got last night but my house was 64 when I woke up this morning. I was still very comfortable taking a shower and getting ready. It's supposed to go into the upper 60's today.
But my dog is another story. When I came downstairs to leave this morning, she was curled in a ball on the couch, buried in a blanket. Apparently she was cold. LOL
It doesn't look like we got actual frost (although my mom did cover her flowers just in case), but I did see traces of frost a couple of nights ago.
My son just rescued a dog he found in the road a couple of days ago, and we are keeping her in the garage right now, as she is getting wormed, shots and flea treatment, and she is refusing to go out in the mornings, acting like she is freezing to death! She's only about a year old, and her hair is very short, so I'm guessing she will need a sweater this winter if she is cold already. This time of year, our garage is nice and warm and holds the warmth all night, so it is a bit of a shock when we step out the door and see just how chilly these mornings really are!
I hear we are on a bit of a warming trend for the next couple of days with some 70's but I do see at least one night that it will be in the 30's near the end of the week!!
I usually cover some of my flowers, but this summer's heat was so damaging, I have dumped or cut back most things already (very early for me). Kind of enjoying getting that fall work out of the way before it gets so cold and damp, like usually happens. Leaves have been falling early too, so we are able to keep up with that a little better than some years in the past.
I did use my Duraflame heater last night, and fell asleep with it on, so the house was plenty warm when I woke up this morning.

I do have medical problems. Sixty-six degrees is as low as we go at night. Of course we have electric blankets. I do leave one window open two inches.
During the day the heat is turned up, I don't like wearing heavy clothes. They hinder my mobility.

I don't like A/C or heating, so I use a minimum of both and am in the South. However, I have a cockatiel so when it is about 65 inside, I turn it up, but only to 68. I'm 68 in cold weather and 76 in hot weather with paddle fans going.
It's 65 degrees here today and no heat has been turned on as yet this year. I always go to warmer clothes and a sweater for a long time. I like that.

Thank you to those who feel as I do -
I'm with you, Coco! I love the cold. I absolutely abhor the heat. If it is below 60 I'm happy. If it is even colder, I'm way more happy.
I visited my father and his wife one January. They live in a fairly mild climate. It was NOT at all cold while I was there. She kept the heat at 78-80 around the clock. It was truly nauseating. Needless to say, I was sick much of the time. Nauseating is actually not an exaggeration. I was literally nauseated most of the time I was in that house.
I felt like I was in a bacteria factory.
@chickenbutt, I know exactly what you mean.
My MIL keeps the house during the winter at 78 degrees. I can only take so much before I start to feel horrible - my hands start to swell, I get very sleepy, and just feel very uncomfortable. They wonder why they get sick so much - LOL
EXACTLY! I told my father - that is probably why she is sick all the time. She just lays around in bed (which doesn't help either) and whine that she doesn't feel good and, meanwhile, it's nauseatingly hot in the house. That's just not good. Plus, like I said, I feel like it's just the perfect environment to breed bacteria.
At least he gets out and either goes places, runs errands, does yard work, so he's not in there all the time. He concedes this to her (he's at the point of being stuck in a situation that isn't great) and just deals with it.

Our thermostat is not programmable, so we set it and leave it; no daily yoyo-ing on the inside temperature. 72 degrees is our ideal temperature, and that will be our winter setting once it actually turns cold.
We have purchased a new wood stove and 6 loads of wood, and will be supplementing our heat during the coldest months of our WV winter.

I live in upstate NY, where we have had a relatively warm fall so far. Nevertheless, last night the temps were in the high thirties so we turned on the heat. Usually, our cut off point for heat is an outside temperature below fifty.

@libbyannE wrote:I would be miserable in your house. Do you have a medical condition which makes you feel cold at a temp of 70? We do not like a hot house. We keep the furnace around 62 and maybe up to 64 during the day and 58-59 at night in winter. And we know how to dress in flexible layers. I think we have had a couple of nights with outside temps in 40 s but days are warm (70 s) so the temp inside is warm from daytime heating. We aren't being cheap; we just aren't comfortable baking in a hot house.
Giggle. No. No medical condition. I think of my place like a greenhouse;
the same temp all yr round. I just don't like wearing a lot of clothes.
I understand. I can't take the heat, and you can't take the cold. I was born this way, and you probably were, too!

We were warm enough with comforters last night I have my heater beside me now.
Hi. I suffer in a hot house. Money has nothing to do with it. (In summer, I have to have AC! ) I was born HOT! Some people are naturally cold. Different strokes....

As much as I hurt if it gets too cold (arthritis everywhere), I would rather be cold than hot anyday. I hate being hot.

Granted, I seem to usually be different from everybody else, but my arthritis actually does better in cool/cold weather. The only time I have bad stiffness in cold is when I have a hand out of the covers and it's winter (I keep my bdrm very cold in winter). Being that it's just laying there not being used or even moving it will get bad.
Other than that, I have way less swelling and stiffness in cold weather. In the heat I have big problems with swelling and more pain. Weird, eh?
I've had arthritis since I was 39, so I guess I'm used to most of it by now and I get by ok. If that were the worst of the problems, eh? ![]()
