And their story is always that they aren't allowed to order beforehand, but if that really were the case, it doesn't really make sense.

I barely listen to any of them. With the exception of a very few hosts, they are all fake and phony salespeople.

Re: Hosts ordering products while on the air...

I'm sure they can order whenever they want. When they order on the air it's a way for them to impress upon us how desirable an item is, hoping for the 'monkey see - monkey do' factor to kick in... Simple as that...

Of course they would. Just another sales technique, I'm sure. As often as they use it, it's probably a very effective one.

I'm sure you're right. As someone else said, to start the stampede.

ITA - I'm sure that kind of thing works well on a lot of people - not only is the host buying the product (they think), but they also are made to feel that if they don't hurry and buy it themselves they will run out of them.

It's kind of too bad that QVC is like the others now. It's just become a big ol' con job. They used to have a lot more class.

I love your tagline!

I agree that Lisa doesn't wear any of Q's stuff off air, or in public.

What is the point of shouting out for production to save them one of this or that in a certain size, while on the air?

It creates a buying frenzy. People like to buy what other people are buying. Plus, if you admire a host's style, and she is buying an item, it might make you think you should get it too. It is just a sales pitch, and it probably works!

Re: Hosts ordering products while on the air...

Talk about fake, LOL. What used to crack me up at HSN was when a host would start off a show by questioning some employee behind the scenes, asking them if the price of the item was correct. They would act as if the price was WAY too low and it must be a mistake. Supposedly 'the guy in the back' would double check on the price so that the host could continue selling.

I used to chuckle when I saw that little spiel!
