I do not have the best English but I have a problem with the hosts speaking problems.  I would think that when any TV station/News program hires a person they would know how to speak properly.  I hear so many hosts speak improperly as in "these ones", "off of", and so forth.  There are many things I find incorrect and I do understand everyone has their own way of speaking, it is just driving me nuts.

I don't know why I'm upset about something so trivial, I guess I'm just having a bad New Year.

@luvmybeetle     my only interest is the product not a host's form of speech         i agree with your opening sentence

@Tori3569. Your sentence doesn't need "of."  "The vet took my cat off her medication" is a complete sentence.

Just my thought on it.  It doesn't bother me either way.

Re: Host's Speaking Correctly

I think maybe the hosts presenting have to think of words on the spur of the moment, you know like when you write a letter you have time to think. I do the same, my mind goes faster than the words come out. I guess it's the way we speak today, very informally. Someone mentioned closed-captioning....very funny sometimes.

Before criticizing the hosts' speaking habits, perhaps you should brush up on basic grammar and sentence construction.

I hate it when an apostrophe is used incorrectly ( host's vs. hosts).

I haven't heard of any Posters being paid a considerable salary for posting correctly.

Posting is not a job

Hosting is a job and words should be used correctly!  Why not?

I believe all the hosts are educated and probably know better.  Perhaps they just let it go when they are on camera so long, and to just let hair down.  Sometimes when speaking for a while, people start speaking, then change thoughts, hooking  odd words together in between. Stuff like doesn't bother me, but stuff like saying "Buff et" Instead of "bouf fay} (buffet) .  Or "moan Ette" instead  of "Moan A", (Monet). Or like  Fill-ette Mignon.instead of "fillay" (filet)  Stuff like that, sets my teeth on edge. lol  but, to each their own!!!

Re: Host's Speaking Correctly

I've heard seemingly well-educated people say and write "should of" and "could of"  instead of should have and could have.  Yes, people use poor English.  Another one that drives me nuts and seems to be accepted today is saying "the couple are" instead of correctly saying and writing "the couple is".  It's ONE couple.
