Was just looking on line at all the color and decoration and carvings on these beautiful horses and other animals. (I was looking at them since I like to color those in the books I have). Then I read about Walt Disney's favorite m-g-r horse. I need to learn more about this, I find it interesting. Beautiful artwork!

Does anyone on here have a really pretty carousel near them, or collect some of those horse minitures that are out there?  I love the colors.

When i was little we lived on a farm and the next farm over was a horse ranch. They raised beautiful thoroughbreds. Their daughter was my best friend and I got to spend a lot of time riding horses, brushing horses, feeding horses and , yes, mucking out stalls. For this reason we never had much interest in riding on the carosals when we went to fairs or amusement parks. However i have always been fascinated with the beautiful way they are painted and decorated. I would love to have a carosel horse as a decor item in my house. They are so colorful and beautiful.

I love carousel horses too.  I wish I had a big house where I could display one. We probably have the same coloring book.  (Dover, I think.)

Re: Horses on merry-go-rounds

I inherited my late aunt's musical carousel. It is large enough to cover a small coffee table. I have it in my foyer.

She collected the horses, deer, zebras - all kinds of animals - over time. It was one of the type of collectible that takes over a year to complete.

I LOVE it and even enjoy dusting off the miniatures.

When I was a child I lived near a beautiful carousel in a old time amusement park in Minnesota. When that park ultimately closed after many years in operation, it was lovingly moved to a more modern theme park so it could be enjoyed by many new generations! It was and still is a magical experience! The horses were so majestic and elegant, they came to life in my young imagination.

My friend has a large house, and she has a beautiful carousel horse displayed in her great room.  It is just so beautiful, and it makes me smile everytime I see it. She loves horses and owned them for a while when she and her EX had a horse farm.

I have a friend that collects carousels. She has a really nice collection of them. She keeps them in a case, and has been collecting them since she was young. Smiley Happy

Re: Horses on merry-go-rounds

those large carousel horses that people put in their foyer or family rooms are very expensive.  i guess the work is so intricate and that is why, but i was surprised at how high they are.

Great thread, @qualitygal!

Our town is very, very lucky to have the 1894 Dentzel Coolidge Park Antique Carousel, lovingly restored by someone who's a friend of my family.  If you read about Bud Ellis, you'll see some beautiful images ('way too many to post here!) of both the restored carousel "critters" and also new ones and numerous smaller pieces for collectors.  He's written a book on the subject, teaches others his craft, and I believe his facility is the only one of its kind in the U.S.A.   We're pretty proud of him!
