I used to take lessons as a teen (western) and show as a non-owner also did trail rides. I loved it. Life got busy, college, my family didn't have the $ to own a horse so my dreams of that never came to fruition. I am now a working adult and settled. I am single and have time and some extra $ that I think I could spend to this hobby. My mom, with whom I shared this passion is now terminally ill and is encouraging me to pursue my dream and I am now trying to research it more.
I would love to hear from any and all who may have horses to see what the costs are for feeding, grooming, vet bills. I living in a residential area and would have to board a horse. I would also have to hire someone to transport the horse from the place I would purchase to the boarding facility. I am not sure this cost either?
As far as horses go, what is the average cost? What is a good age for purchase? Best places to look for horses for sale?
I am interested in any information you would be willing to share about experiences. I have also seen people "leasing" horses. I am not sure about this and if this might be a good option? I wondering what that entails - legally, insurance wise, etc.
Thanks in advance!
