Horse Meat for Human Consumption in the US?

I have heard a few reports that a plant in New Mexico may very well be approved shortly.

I had no idea that it was ever allowed in the US.

The last plant closed in 2007 when the USDA refused to test horse meat any longer. Last fall the company sued the USDA for lack of inspection services for horses going to slaughter.

There indeed was a ban on production of horse meat for human consumption that lapsed in 2011.

I'm not sure that there's an appropriate way to voice my opinions here!
