Someone at the roofing company should have the decency to come move that darn truck!!!! Sorry but if I had or was the home owner, I'd of ask them to move it before they even left...

I am so sorry this woman is on a ventilator, continued prayers for her and her family & friends..

How terrible. I hope she comes through this.

To be totally analytical about this - if that truck weren't parked there, she would not have been out in the street and get hit by a car coming around the corner. Therefore, the truck/driver was the proximate cause of the accident.

I don't know what the scenario looks like but I get the feeling that the vehicle that hit her was also probably not at fault.

If the truck was parked where it was not supposed to be, in my mind, that driver should be charged with at least SOMETHING for this occurrence, assuming that there was no way that the driver of the moving vehicle could have seen or predicted that the pedestrian would be in the street.

This is a tragic situation, but unfortunately there were things lined up here that were a recipe for an accident. I don't blame the driver of the roofing company truck. I live in a neighborhood where there are new homes being built, and there are many different construction, landscaping, delivery vehicles parked around our streets at any given time. We have narrower streets with curves in places as well. Sometimes these types of vehicles cannot be completely out of the way. In my opinion, it is incumbent upon drivers to drive SLOW enough in these circumstances so that they are able to react quickly should a pet, child, or in this case, adult in a walker suddenly appear in their path.

Additionally, I'm sorry to say, but I question the judgement of the woman for walking out into an obviously dangerous part of the street when she herself is unable tomove quickly. She should NOT have gone off the sidewalk. She should have turned around. However, The police need to investigate. As another poster recommended, let the police do their job. But from the info provided here, I wouldn't blame the driver of the parked truck.

Adding that I myself, a relatively fit person, would not have walked out in the street onto the blind spot of a possible oncoming car. I would have walked back to a clearer part of the road, and crossed to the other side.

Yes, I have told the HOA about it and informed them that cars don't pay attention and speed. The witness himself is an HOA member.

They would rather worry it seems about whether cable wires are showing or if you are trimming your trees than worry about safety issues.

I've called the PD about putting in a speed bumps, they never pursued it.

I'm a renter, I can only say and do so much, but the irony is I do and say more than the homeowners. I watch out for issues and try and make it safer, but I'm just "a renter" as I've been told, I have no voice. Yet, I've rented in this community longer than the majority of the Board members have lived here.

To add to your comments. I ran many years on streets/roads and divided roadways. One has to always remember, "if you cannot see the vehicles, they also cannot see you". If one chooses to drive/run/walk in a "blind spot" situation? Bad things can happen.

I ran the same way I drive. If I cannot see I DO NOT turn into anything in which I cannot see. I don't care of horns are honking or people are cussing me out. If they want to turn? That is up to them, but I always go by "if I cannot see them they cannot see me".

Also, unless doing so on a sidewalk, never walk or run in any street or roadway in the same direction as the traffic. Always do this facing oncoming traffic. At least you will have a chance to see a potential problem before it is too late. With traffic coming up behind you when walking/running? Don't think I need to explain that one, but I see way too many people doing this, some wearing headsets, thus eliminating even the sound of potential dangers.

It appears that everyone was wrong in this and your friend is the only one topay the price. I pray she will be okay and I hope that things will be changed, worked out, taken care of, to fix an ongoing, dangerous situation. People, companies, don't think about anything except getting a job done. Roofers... check! Police called ... Check! Jobs done.

The homeowner is clueless. She is a zany woman. She tells us now that they are parking the truck there and will be back on Monday! I guess the cones will make a difference now??

I agree, the driver bears most of the fault. Drivers have to be responsible for their behavior on the street. The cops will cover for the cops. The truck company I guess gets a pass to leave the truck there all weekend. I wonder if the company contributes a lot to the Chamber of Commerce here, perhaps they are free of any responsibility or liability.

As for the neighbor lady. She couldn't help having to walk around the truck. Whether she should have turned around (which she shouldn't have to do walking down a sidewalk) is pointless right now as hers is the life hanging in the balance. No word on her, she's still in the ER.

I just can't believe they are allowed to park there all weekend and block everything.

The idea of calling he local TV station is great... thanks for that thought.

No one should lose their life over something that could have been prevented if people understood safety and paid attention.

Above all I hope your neighbor recovers. If she is in the ER that may be a good sign. If she were critically injured, she would be in the OR or ICU but not held in ER. Maybe the car was moving slowly and she did not sustain a bad injury.

how terribly sad, but my thinking is that maybe the truck was not illegally parked there. unfortunately, life is not fair, that we all know, if this is the case.

i hope she survives and lives a long time.
