~Honoring 5 fallen heroes U.S. Marine Corps & Navy~

"It is with deep regret and heartfelt sorrow that the Marine Corps can officially confirm that the following Marines were killed on July 16, 2015, at the combined Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee:

Sgt. Carson A. Holmquist (USMC)


   • Active duty.
   • From: Polk, Wisconsin.
   • Entered service: January 2009.
   • Occupation: Automotive maintenance technician.
   • Deployments: Afghanistan

Gunnery Sgt. Thomas J. Sullivan (USMC)

   • Active duty.
   • From: Hampden, Massachusetts.
   • Entered service: September 1997.
   • Occupation: Field artillery cannoneer.
   • Deployments: Iraq (September 2007 to April 2008, September 2004 to April 2005).
   • Among his decorations was the Purple Heart.

Lance Cpl. Squire K. Wells (USMCR)

   • Reservist on active duty operational support.
   • Entered service: February 2014.
   • From: Cobb, Georgia.
   • Occupation: Field artillery cannoneer.

Staff Sgt. David A. Wyatt (USMC)

   • Active duty.
   • From: Burke, North Carolina.
   • Entered service: September 2004.
   • Occupation: Field artillery operations man.
   • Deployments: Afghanistan (October 2010 to May 2011), Iraq (October 2007 to January 2008).

"Please keep our fallen Marines in Tennessee and their families in your thoughts and prayers," said Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr, Commandant of the Marine Corps. "Also pray for a speedy recovery of those wounded and affected by this tragedy."

"A sailor who was shot in the Chattanooga, Tenn., gun rampage died Saturday, becoming the fifth fatal victim, his family said.

 

           Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith,

 

who was fighting for his life after a gunman opened fire at two military outposts in Tennessee on Thursday, passed away about 4 a.m.

 

The 24-year-old hero was from Paulding, Ohio."

It is all so sad. It breaks my heart when I hear how a few of these men served in Afghanastan and/or Iraq and survived only to come home and be killed by an American on US soil.

Thanks for posting this. Coming from a Marine Corps family, my heart absolutely breaks.

 

I hope this brings to light new regulations for all state side military operations and the security at those locations. This isn't the world many of us grew up in, and the danger is ever present, even when these brave service people are at 'home'.

 

I thank them and their families for their sacrifice, and I pray for peace and strength for those that must go on without them.
