I take it you're not from the south?

Also do people in the midwest say honey and dear a lot?

I always think of it as a "term of endearment"

and like it. I don't think any harm or disrespect is meant, nor even just said to elderly.

All ages are good!

I'm in the deep south of GA and you're so right, it's very common here and used as a 'term of'endearment', never meant in a condescending way.

If that bothered you, you wouldn't make it around here for long, LOL!

Of course, I'm 65 and I still say 'ma'am' and 'sir' to everyone, too.

No, I'm not offended and frankly, am rarely offended by anyone.  I just let it go, life is short to be bothered by others behavior.

I don't like it at all.  I never have.  Even my husband knows better than to call me honey or dear.

i find it extremely offensive.

I’m perfectly fine with it.

Yes, I find it offensive, as well as patronizing and smarmy. Always have, always will.

LOL, this is the most ridiculous post, complaining because someone is being respectable to you!  I am from the South too, and it is a form of courtesy here, Bless your heart, Honey, LOL!!!

Depends on the persons tone.

I must offend everyone because I do use "Hon" when shopping.  I've never been addressed as such by professional medical people.

In fact, DH and I are on a first name basis with our PCP and I know I've said "Hon" to him.  LOL

It doesn't bother me if somebody calls me "Dear" or "Honey".

Just words, nothing insulting about it..  Informal.

Too much else to be concerned about in my life.

It makes me happy, one thing not lost from the south, in my state.  NC, only 47% of adults are natives ....help...glub...glib.  Being over run.

Doesn’t bother me any more than Youz Guyz
