HomeGoods - Questionable business practices

So this happened today at my Home Goods store.

I've been looking for a couple of small upholstered sort of ottomans/stools to pull out when I need some extra seating in the living room.

Found a perfect little round thing at Home Goods. It had a green sale label on it at $49.99 and a white label with a barcode at $59.99. I think this is how they usually advertise their specials and sale prices.

Got to the register and the SA took a scissor and cut the green $49.99 tag off and stuck in a drawer. She did this very fast. Then she scanned the $59.99 and it came up $59.99 of course. I asked her to show me the green tag she had just cut off and put in the drawer. And then I pointed out that the price is $49.99. She started telling me that they made a mistake and the item is clearly $59.99.

I informed her then that there are Consumer Protections Laws in allmost all states, I believe, that clearly state that if an item is mismarked or has multiple prices on it, it must be sold at the lowest price. Then I asked her to call a manager.

He was also uncooperative until I mentioned the law again and then he agreed to $49.99 but said I would be unable to return the item. The nerve!!! To add insult to their stupidity she then rang the stool up at $49.00 and then she wrote AS IS on the receipt.

Stand your ground and watch your price tags and how they are ringing you up.

I just check on-line and one of the recent complaints is exactly what happened to me here. Unfortunately that customer allowed themselves to be bullied by Home Goods.
