Re: Home security system questions?

I just upgraded to ADT pulse and love it. We have been with ADT for 25 years and have never had a real problem with them.

Re: Home security system questions?

Thanks again Im still reading all of your info.

To those saying get a dog (See above) We cant have a dog my husband is deathly allergic to dogs. (shots don't work, hes allergic to their saliva). Or believe me Id have a dog! Had dogs my whole life before my husband.

We don't need smoke or carbon monoxide detection, or home was built with those installed electrically but thanks for the suggestion.

We don't need cameras either to monitor as I stay at home now and don't work.

I agree when we are home and awake we wouldn't have it on. My DH has a habit of going in and out feeding the birds etc, or we go in the hot tub, or I sit outside in warm weather. Id be turning it off and on a zillion times. lol.

Re: Home security system questions?

There are at least 10 breeds of dogs that are non-allergenic. A poodle is just one of them.

Re: Home security system questions?

If nothing else, you should have a can of Mace or Pepper spray .... even if you have to take a class. You need to have SOMETHING worked out for security.

We have a dog and he is the self-appointed Head of Security. He barks at everyone who comes to the door, but, hey, so what?

How much did it cost to upgrade? I've been with ADT for about 10 years and my system is out dated. Someone could easily cut the wires outside and enter the house. ADT would never know. Power goes out all the time and no one calls to check up on me. Also, if the phone goes out they have no way to contact me.

I talked to customer service about this last year, and they sent someone out. This guy wanted t charge me $600 in equipment and instillation to upgrade to pulse. I said forget it.

I may look at switching to the cable company system if I see that they use that same wireless technology and can give me a free install rate?

How many times has your house been broken into and how long did it take for ADT to get there????

Re: Home security system questions?

My alarm system is wireless. All the doors and windows have sensors. I also have security motion sensor lights on the outside of the house. I don't live in a bad neighborhood, but my alarm has prevented two break ins (one when I was home) in the last 12 months. My system was installed by a local outfit who also does the monitoring. I found them on Angies list and the reviews were excellent. System wise I guess the cost depends on what part of the country you live in. I would definitely check several companies before you make a choice. Afterall, you have to be comfortable with the company you choose to protect you and your home.

Re: Home security system questions?

We have ADT hard wired into the walls. We also have smoke and carbon monoxide detection.

There are settings for "home" and "away" and several keypads I had installed upstairs with panic buttons.

It's great peace of mind, and your homeowner's insurance rates might go down if you have an alarm system.

Answering the door with a large butcher knife and a barking dog help, too. {#emotions_dlg.devil2} Sorry ... had that happen yesterday and scared the poor man to death. He wanted to invite us to his church ... now I'm not so sure.

They have a special $99 but we got the additional remote security which allows us to alarm up, change the temperatures of both thermostats and also turn lights off and on. My DH is a tech guy and wanted this. My payment went up @ $8 more a month after the installation. We have been a customer for 25 years and they did take off a lot of the installation because we have never had an upgrade, one service call to change out the battery and never complained LOL. We did check with other security systems but most of them wanted DH to install it all and still charge us $350+. He loves it and thinks it is an added point if and when we do sell our house. We did get rid of our landline when this was installed because the other system could only support a landline (savings @$50/month).
