I have the Arlo Pro 2 camera system.  Two outdoor camers (all I needed) with audio, video, and alerts.  I monitor it on my phone from anywhere, even out of state, and on my laptop.  Yes, you need wifi to monitor it no matter where you are.  Mine was installed by a local handyman because I cant climb a ladder.  He recommended different mounts than what is normally provided.   The "screw on" ones were $10.00 more, but do work much better than the magnetic ones.  My system has rechargeable batteries which would be fine if I could get up and down to charge them.  I opted to install them into my electric system instead, but since they still have the batteries then those will kick in if anyone tries to cut the cord or if the power goes out.

The picture is good but a bit dark at night for my taste.  The motion detector turns on in about 3-4 seconds which means I may miss the UPS guy coming up my driveway but I catch him walking to my door.  You can schedule the system so if your neighbor insists on feeding birds in the morning, you can turn it off so you dont get alerts every few seconds while the birds are flying around.  On the upside to that, we have a beautiful video of a woodpecker landing on the camera, looking straight at the lens, then pecking at the lens before flying off.  My cameras have caught an attempted break in to my garage, kids putting toilet paper around my tree (I was able to stop them) and a package thief.

Hope this helps.

Maybe it was you who posted about your system on the other thread so, if so, thanks for reiterating the info here.  Smiley Happy

What a cool pic with the woodpecker!   I love that.  Way cool!

The one I have over the garage seems to attract bees and more than once I've opened a video to find what appears to be a GIANT bee right there in my face.   YIKES!  Bees are about the only thing that absolutely terrify me so it was definitely an experience.  A birdie experience would surely be much better.  Smiley Very Happy  Thankfully, bees are pretty much gone for now until next warmign season.

Chickenbutt,  we also have video of a rather large white moth which my grand daughter swears is a fairy.  No bees here, but a wasp came by and a spider built a web in front of the lens.  The spider was interesting, watching it go back and forth building its web.  It was almost like watching a nature show.

I’ve had the blink cameras since July. I have 4 cameras and I love it, very happy with them.

It seems like luck with these things. They aren't smart enough yet. I'll stick with my guns for now.

@chickenbutt

On the FAQ’s it says you can access the live view from anywhere, as long as you have a WiFi or cellular connection on your phone. However it is only accessible to one device at a time. So if 5 family members download the app only 1 person at a time can see the live view. Maybe you just tried to access it while someone else was using the live view? I know during the presentation they showed being able to access the cameras from anywhere.

I just got mine mine today so I haven’t tried it yet. My son has Arlo & he can see his cameras from anywhere. If this Blink system doesn’t do that then I’ll be returning mine.

Hi!  Yeah, I wish that were true.   But I have tested it and cannot get anything if I, with my phone, am away from the range of my network.

I am the only one who has access, since my husband is the only other person in the household and he was unable to get it on his iPhone, so there isn't anybody else looking at them.   The only place the app has been installed is on my phone.

This Arlo system sounds interesting, as another poster has mentioned them and they seem much more useful.

WOW!😧. A lot of different opinions.....that’s good though.  I am not going to rush into anything right now.   I suppose they will improve with time,  as these are still in  the developing phase.  Thank you for all the helpful posts!

I got these recently and am still learning how they work but I was able to use my phone from another location to get a live view.  One camera has a wifi issue but it will be replaced.  If you have an issue with any camera, check the settings to see if the wifi is low.  I'm still figuring out where I want to place these and how to avoid constant alerts.  They worked perfectly when I had packages delivered.  I wonder how long the batteries will last though.  I'm not totally thrilled with the night view but I haven't set these up permanently yet.  They work perfectly indoors.  Caught the dog on the couch.
