I didn't want to hijack the clothing thread (about the 10% increase).
Someone mentioned spending less at Christmas this year. It seems that throught this recession people still are swarming the stores on Black Friday!
Have you thought about your budget for gifts? (I don't really budget a certain amount but I do spread out purchases over 4-5 months before Christmas and pay the CC in full).
I was actually looking at my sons' Amazon wishlists (which they make for ME only and do not send them to relatives) and figured out that I will probably spend about $300 total on their gifts this year. Less than last year, but not because of the economy, just because what is on the lists is not as expensive as last year [Lego mindstorms! yikes].
I will spend more on the nieces and nephews this year because I am not going to make gifts for them but will purchase a gift or send cash to the older ones.
