United Parcel Service (UPS) will levy peak surcharges to U.S. residential packages for the holiday season, an unprecedented move by the shipping giant to pay for rising costs.
The charges, ranging from 27 cents to 97 cents per package, will be applied to individual and commercial customers shipping to U.S. residences in November and December, UPS said Monday. While UPS has had residential shipping surcharges, it has never before tacked on holiday season fees.
I figure QVC will raise the shipping rates we pay but after the holidays they'll keep the higher rates. This could become an annual event.

I "could" say something about THAT........but it may be misunderstood as being political or religious..................

Maybe people will start shopping at the mall again. I don't like to pay shipping fees.Too expensive.
Now I think they just add convenience fees to it! Many items you get in the mail weigh very little, why does it cost so much? Especially the return postage, yikes!

Looks like my gifts will be Gift Cards & Cash, just the cost of a stamp!

It doesn't bother me. I still prefer to order online than tackle mall shopping. Trying to find a place to park, walk all around and not finding what I want is frustrating.
I hope some of this increase actually goes to the drivers. They work hard during the holidays.

I think as we get older gift cards or cash are the much better gift.

I saw this on the news last night. I don't think it will impact much. People will continue to ship right up until Christmas, no matter an increase.

I figure QVC has negotiated deals with all of its shippers and I have no reason to believe they'll have to pay what's essentially a handling fee. That's for us plebes.
If QVC raises their shipping rates, customers are going to balk and go elsewhere. Shipping fees are a tipping point for a lot of buyers, and QVC has not won goodwill with theirs.

Retailers seem to be using S&h charges as a source of revenue to keep them operating in the black. I don't know how UPS justifies raising their prices as nothing has happened to increase their operating costs. The cost of fuel has been down drastically for some time. They should be lowering their fees.

I sure hope not @Kachina624.
