Please keep watch over your expected holiday packages as you shop.  Also, please watch out for your neighbors' packages, if you can.  Someone on our neighborhood Nextdoor knows someone who works for UPS.  What she posted is something that I hope is not true, but unfortunately, I am sure that it is.

She posted that when UPS (and maybe any other shipping company, including USPS) hire temporary holiday help, some of this new help text their friends with addresses of deliveries where it appears that there are expensive items left on the doorstep.   I am sure that all of the companies try their best to prevent this, but I can see this happening.

I am home almost all day, and my UPS guy always rings the doorbell.  Unfortunately, Amazon just leaves packages anywhere and sometimes at the wrong address.

Just be mindful so that you have a wonderful holiday.

Re: Holiday Package Delivery

Because UPS drivers have a designated route this would require 2 minutes for local law enforcement to figure out a pattern after a short visit to the local hub.

Re: Holiday Package Delivery

If Amazon did that to me, I would stop shopping with them.  Plus you are not responsible for packages left without your signature.

Re: Holiday Package Delivery

UPS rings my doorbell during the Holidays but the rest of the time they just leave it on my front porch.

Re: Holiday Package Delivery

And once they have an idea of the area to target, plant a few high dollar looking but empty packages on the truck...out for delivery.

Law enforcement parked down the street in wait. HD dashcam rolling.

@SXMGirl

This is getting to be a big problem and has been a featured story on our local news....Some crooks spend their day following the UPS/Fed Ex trucks.....and some thiefs are very bold--- even if they see a security camera it doesnt stop them.........

My UPS guy usually knocks on my door and then leaves the packages but the time he leaves my packages are when I'm home from work or am working from home -Ive been lucky as to the times of delivery.........I have a small gift list and normally shop early too.......

Re: Holiday Package Delivery

I'm sure that happens but I don't think the temps do it more than the regular delivery people do it.  Dishonesty and theft exist, that's a fact a of life and it doesn't matter if someone is a temp or a 25 year veteran.  Sorry, I'm not about to watch out for my neighbor's packages.  I won't take on that responsibity.    Everyone knows that theft of packages during the holiday season is a problem, everyone knows that as things heat up Usps, UPS, FEDEX are likely to leave packages on doorsteps and porches and at back doors.  I don't fault them for that; whatever they do, we're going to complain.  If it isn't leaving packages at doors, it would be for late deliveries or leaving packages at access points.  They do the best they can.  This year, I'm not going to wait until December to purchase gift items.  My goal is to have all my online Christmas shopping done by Thanksgiving week.  That way, I avoid the package drama.  Amazon drivers have always left packages when no one answers the bell.  I've had them leave the package without even ringing my bell.  I know they have been there when I get the "package delivered" text from Amazon.  That actually happend last week when I was at a doctor's appt., they were supposed to deliver the next day.  They came one day early and just left it on the front step.  It was there but if it had been Christmas week, it might not have been since thieves cruise around looking for packages.  When I went off the office everyday, I had packages delivered to my sister's house because she is retired.  Also, her building has a mailroom so if she happens to be out, packages are delivered and held for her.

Re: Holiday Package Delivery

On trac is the worst. they have left valuable packages out in the drive way-

Once they left a package on top of a garbage can which was placed out on garbage day. It turns out it wasn't even for us. I have a pic of the latest---they put a package out on one of our gate posts. ---gates were open.

Re: Holiday Package Delivery

I am still waiting for a Cheryl's Cookies package from last year early December.   I wonder who ate them or perhaps they will arrive this year for Christmas.
