Hodgkins, Illinois

[ Edited ]

Does anyone know anything about this place?  It seems to be a new stop-over for packages from the Q heading West.  It seems my packages are loving it there because they're staying a long time,  from 3-5 days.  Funny,  you don't think of Illinois as being a tropical paradise with waving palms or a mountain retreat with placid lakes and roaring waterfalls.   So what's the attraction and why are my packages dallying so long in Hodgkins?

Maybe it's a huge UPS facility with envelope tennis and package bowling that our parcels just can't leave because they're having a rip-roaring good time.

I wish whoever is in charge would get a grip on his responsibilities, shut down the games and good times and make those packages hit the road.  We're waiting, waiting, waiting.....

Kachina624,

UPS has a major hub in Hodgkins, IL located in the south central part of Illinois. Millions of packages of processed there.  It is approximately 70+ or so miles south of Chicago and near smaller communities such as Kankakee, Pembroke (one of the poorest communities in the country that was working on organic farming and poultry), and St. Anne's.  You can take state roads from Chicago or head south on I-57 to  reach it.  After you leave the Chicago metro area, you begin entering farm country, primarily soy beans and corn.  There is a beautiful lake nearby (Kankakee Lake).  Otherwise, the drive can be boring but can be fascinating if you travel it through the seasons and note the changing landscape and growth of crops.

There is a great video on You Tube from the Chicago CBS affiliate.

Maybe UPS needs to be closer to an airport?  There has definitely been a recent change in the way Q's packages are being routed.  Maybe they're overwhelmed but the whole process right now seems to be a mess.  If it was bad before, it's now a disaster.

As a resident of the general area, I have seen the facility many times.  I live south of it.  It doesn't have palm trees or tropical bars.  It is a very small town that's not fabulous!

It is not 70-80 miles out of Chicago, it is closer to Chicago than that.  Maybe 15-30 miles.  It is a huge and major hub for them.  Why there?  I don't know.

It's pretty close to Midway Airport and not super far from O'Hare.  It is right off an expressway.  Not sure the airports factored in to its location, but it would make sense.  They have that "UPS mail innovations" style shipping.  The business ships via UPS and they route it to the postal service for delivery.  I notice that is for smaller packages.  I imagine that adds time.

I can never predict delivery times!

@Kachina624 and all

My parcels have a good vacation in Hodgkins, too!

And, if the packages are coming from the west coast, they linger in Las Vegas (the saying what goes on in Vegas, stays in Vegas, I wonder what THEY are doing!).

Hyacinth003,

Thanks for the correction relative to the distance between Hodgkins and Chicago, IL.  Perhaps, I have driven that route so much that it seems interminably long to me.

@Nomore   I'd be worried about those packages staying in Vegas and I'd never see them.  At the very least, they're up to no good.
