Hoarders and Shopping Channels

I just read an interesting article about a book written by Matt Paxton, who works on cleaning the homes of hoarders on the TV show of the same name. He talks about how some of the biggest hoarders are tv shoppers (along with Goodwill and thrift stores) and how he sees lots of QVC boxes. He also said he is trying to work with the shopping channels to initiate responsible shopping practices - that it is easy for hoarders to sit at home and shop and they can get their "fix" all day long - once the high of buying something wears off, there are more hours of tv for shopping. I think that encouraging responsible shopping by the channels, and not just the host saying only buy what you can afford (let's face it, they always say feel free to buy more than one! - or tell us how many people are buying more than one), is an excellent idea.
