Re: High school graduation gift

@NYC2AZ

I think your gift idea is very nice. I am sure that your nephew will appreciate it. If he is going to college in the fall he can use the extra money. I have never known a teenager who couldn't find something to buy in Target. One suggestion that I have for you is to put the card with the check in a mailing envelope either a plain brown one or a priority mail envelope. I do this often so that is looks like I am just sending paper and not a card that might contain money or a gift card.

BUT as a Target gift card, I just know from my son. My son has not been in a Target store since grade school, when he went shopping with me. My son has a collection of gift cards to stores where he will never shop.

He gets these cards from people at work and relatives for his birthday or Christmas. He has cards for hundreds of dollars to WaWa, ShopRite,even $50 to Amazon and about 10 other retailers. I feel bad the people meant well. But he will never use these cards.

Thanks for being generous.

@drizzellla  That's a shame.  Kids don't need stuff to drag around, or store at Mom's house.  Just send a generic VISA or other card and let it go.  That's the best thing to do in today's world.  Stuff is old school

Re: High school graduation gift

I would send the $200 online directly to him. The check may be intercepted  in the mail, especially if it's included in a card. Ask his parents how he would prefer to receive it.

@Q-Checker.  Don't look for Carver Dan boxes in the future.  He passed away recently.

I never use gift cards; is it safe to mail them?

I've had them not show up so now they either go into a padded envelope where they can't be felt or are hand delivered.

Re: High school graduation gift

I think $100 is plenty for a high school graduation for a family member. $50 for a close friend.
