Since it's big package delivery time of the year, I got a text supposedly from USPS that said the postmaster cannot deliver my package because it did not have a house number on it. They wanted me to provide my name and address and credit card numbers so they could charge the three dollar redelivery fee.  I immediately knew it was a scam and just deleted the text. I did get a package today and when the mail guy brought it halfway up the driveway I told him about it and he said yes that's a scam and there's a bunch of them out there, too and so many people fall for it. He said USPS, UPS and FedEx will never ask you for that information randomly like that.  He said if we can't deliver it, we take it to the post office and leave a note in your mailbox. And I knew that.

Re: Hey All Heads up on a Scam

Yes I have received several from different carriers. I knew it was a scam when they started using emojis of little trucks.

@bmorechick I got that stupid scam text last month. I know better. I deleted it. I'm 74 and smarter than those crooks.

Re: Hey All Heads up on a Scam

I got a text yesterday saying my package was on hold and I needed to provide information before it can be delivered.  I was skeptical because I have an item from QVC that I ordered on December 9th and tracking says "your package may be delayed...". That message has not changed since December 15.  I thought getting a text from USPS was odd so I just deleted it.  Customer Service has refunded my charge.  Thanks for pointing this out.

Re: Hey All Heads up on a Scam

Thanks for the heads- up.  I've been getting so many scam emails lately - from "Fed-Ex", "Citizens Bank", "Wells Fargo", etc.   I don't even open them - I keep hitting the "block sender" feature, but they keep on coming.

My father-in-law (in his 90's) opened one of those and his computer then got very, very slow.  Then he got a ransom email stating he would need to pay to get the computer to work normal again.  He paid once, and then the ransom emails kept on coming.  He then mentioned it to a family member that explained to him what had happened.  He had to get a new computer, passwords, etc.  It was such a mess - so sad!

I wouldn't expect any delivery service to have my phone # or E-mail to send me a message.  I've been getting those E-mails for years.

This very scam was reported in our neighborhood several times two weeks ago. Fortunately, no one who received the scam call fell for it.

Re: Hey All Heads up on a Scam

Sad that elderly folks can be taken advantage of, but they are purposely targeted.

This is not a scam from a delivery company but when my dad was 90, he almost got talked into buying 2 cemetery plots.  They claimed that as a veteran he qualified for a drastic reduction in the cost of 2 plots at a nearby cemetery. And they kept calling him.  If he hadn't thought to mention this to his friend who was a funeral home director, he'd have spent the $$ and I'm sure it wouldn't have been easy to get his money back.

You see, he'd already prepaid for his and Mom's funeral through his friend's funeral home business 10 years earlier.  And he'd paid for the plots at our church cemetery. But he was slipping a little mentally and when he got that phone call, he fell for it.  Thankfully his friend warned him and then called the cemetery to inform them.  This business, however, continued to try to sell him the plots-that's what made me angry.  I had to keep reminding him NOT to buy them.  Finally, they stopped calling but only after his friend contacted them more than once!
