Help with long-haired Chihuahua puppy...

We just got a long-haired Chihuahua puppy. We hadn't planned on this. It just kinda dropped in our laps. He is 8 weeks old and in very good health. He is very scrappy and is not a bit afraid or submissive with the other dogs (a shih Tzu and a Westie/shih Tzu). The vet said to socialize him really well and make sure he knows who is the alpha in the group (ME). Any advice from anyone who has one of these dogs is greatly appreciated. He also will be around several children ages 9-12.
