Re: Help with Eyeglasses, please

I don't know how old your lenses are but if they are 2 or more years old, most optical places won't put them in new frames even if they could match your old frame.

I see commercials and ads for inexpensive optical places all the time, even for progressive lenses, which I also wear.  Check to see what is available. Even Walmart has a cheap optical service.

Watching for coupons and going to a cheaper provider might well cost less than trying to adhere your lenses to another frame.

Wow, you have a great plan and benefits.

I'll definitely research Medicare Advantage Plans and contact a Medicare advisor, especially as I also don't have dental insurance.

I appreciate all the info you provided.

@Carmie :

Glad you found LENSMART and I'll also look into them.

My RX from years ago, for at least ones of my eyes, was a minus 7-something.

WarbyParker.com filled it at the time and I bet they still do very strong scripts.

Plus they have 'home try-on' at no charge (5 frames at a time), which I reallly need.

@AngelPuppy1:

I can't drive around and I won't have someone do that so yes, I'll call and/or e-mail eyeglass shops.

Re: Help with Eyeglasses, please

Seems to me, when I tried to do that very same thing, I got told that it wouldn't be possible because finding frames that will fit exactly the lenses is very hard to do. Now if you will be getting the same frames, maybe---if they are still made. Lenses are made to fit frames not the other way around---

@CalminHeart :

My progressive lenses are 12 years old - the same as the frames.

That's one of the reasons I started this thread, to get ideas for possible options.

Walmart could not fix my eyeglasses frames and said I'd likely have to replace them.

Yep, I'll keep an eye out for coupons, etc. but also want to make sure that I get good quality as I can't afford to replace my glasses as often as most people do.

@wagirl:

My frames have been discontinued, but I've found them new (& reasonably-priced) at Poshmark and used on Ebay.

Yes, I have progressive lenses and not all frames work well with them.

@feline groovy  The dental coverage under my plan pays for your check ups and provides $2600 to pay for extras. The hearing pays for your annual hearing examine and $3,000 toward purchasing hearing aids. Also, it will cover $300.00 for over the counter hearing aids. You just need to choose. Take care and wishing the best for you.

I am glad I could help you.

Re: Help with Eyeglasses, please

@feline groovy   Through the years, Lions Club assisted me with at least 150 clients in various stages of optical problems.

I can assure you that the opticians/opthalmologists they work with are equipped to handle whatever condition you suffer from.

Of course, I believe if an opthalmologist was involved, the Correctional Health Services medical insurance covered that (as your medical insurance would); however, that care was coordinated with the optical services that were NOT covered by medical insurance to provide eye exams and eyeglasses.

In short, I had a 100% successful relationship with Lions Club.
