They make parking mats with stops (bumps) which you place on the floor so when you drive into the garage the mats have a bump on them to stop you from going any further.

This is what I have in my garage, too.  Use a sharpee to mark the correct placement on the floor because they do slide sometimes.

@FlowerBear

If you decide to try this approach some time, you can just go to a hardware store and ask what they have - many have a workshop in the back room you may not even know about.  They may have scrap wood you can buy very affordably.  You can use any piece of wood.  Don't let the name of the store stop you.  But, you were given many good options.  We have reached a point in our lives where we stay off ladders, so the ball from the ceiling approach no longer works for us.  Hope you have found a godd & easy solution from all the creative ideas.

Re: Help to not hit shelf in Garage

Years and years ago, my dad attached a lightweight stick, or was it a broom?  Maybe it was a small lightweight hand broom attached to a string, hanging from the garage ceiling.

'Anyway', it prevented me from running into the washer/dryer in their garage.

It really worked, and no damage to the car.

Some/many dads were/are so thoughtful.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).
