What @butterfly123 did was quote the post and the notification is automatic. If you just want to put the poster's name, you can put the @ symbol and choose from the drop down menu. But I can't get it to work if the name is not on the drop down menu and it has a space ?
Very true, @VanSleepy, that's the software glitch I described. Entering a space and trying to type another part of the nickname signals the software to convert to plain text.

It took me so long to type with my one finger I didn't see @dooBdoo's reply![]()

Sorry, I lost internet connection.
I am using an IPad Air and have tried using the space key and the notification deactivates.

I know how you feel, @VanSleepy! When I'm using my ancient iPad here it takes me forever!

I tried to paste and that wouldn’t work either.

Did you copy it by opening another window, creating a temporary reply on another thread with the name, then (while the other window is still open) going back and pasting it in the first thread? If so, try creating it in the secondary thread with a word before it, then their "@name", then a word after it -- then copy the whole thing (words and name), paste it in the first thread, and see if it works. I have noticed if I use this workaround on my Mac, it works -- but if I try it with my iPad, it doesn't.
The feature is highly sensitive, and often just a space or hitting "return" will cause it to go to plain text.

I tried opening another window and followed your instructions and it didn’t work on the iPad.

I think it's probably showing us, then, that we can't use that option with our iPads. I know another way to do it by creating the HTML version of the nickname, but that's really hard to explain and in most cases I doubt anyone wants that much work.

I thought I read somewhere that using the , / - + symbol worked.
Not all of them at the same time, but instead one of the above.

I'm not aware of that, @butterfly123. If anyone can make that work, I hope they'll tell us about it. You might be thinking of the HTML we use when formatting our signature line?
