It is a degenerative problem. Once you get it, you will get it again, and your symptoms will be more severe with each "attack." You can change your diet, drink tart cherry juice, and manage your stress, but if you take the gout medication Allopurinol you will be on it forever.

My neighbor has had it for years and he recently found the tart cherry juice and it has been a miracle for him.

DH was skeptical but ate fresh cherries.....within an hour, his pain was gone and the swelling was not as severe.

We now keep dried cherries on hand all the time when cherries are not in season.....they help but not as much as fresh ones.....the tart cherry juice he has not found to help much either....I did buy cherry capsules at a health food store and they did the trick also.

Definitely try some fresh cherries...so much better than drugs and they taste good!

Allopurinol was prescribed for me, but I couldn't take it because it gave me a rash. But it really helps.

The only thing that helps my husband is REAL CHERRY JUICE. Also I think they suggest a low purine (?) diet. Hubby never does that one, OH and NO shrimp for him.
