I came home from the grocery store and found a nice-sized pigeon (I think -- sorry, don't know birds!) sitting in the front yard near our front shrub, as though it were protecting an egg. She/he is clearly either hurt or ill, though, because when I walked up our sidewalk to take packages in and came within a foot of her, she didn't move.
DH went out to put water near her, and she literally growled, then got up and waddled into the driveway under one of our cars. She hasn't moved for 1/2 hour, except to appear to groom or peck at her chest a bit, and to do #2. When she got up and walked, her gait was fine and her wings don't appear broken. But something is wrong!
Our vet is closed, our SPCA is closed, the bird shelter/rescue places are closed, and we don't know what to do to help her. It's sweltering here -- still 90+ degrees and very high humidity, with tomorrow getting worse.
Advice? Can you touch her? Provide a box with bird seed and water?
