Help Im having an 'Andy Rooney' moment!

When did 'black friday' get to be 'black friday'? When I was a teen in the 80's after Thanksgiving we would sit around the table and talk about Christmas shopping.....then. There were no ads for huge TV's or laptops or kindles or stores opening at 10pm on Thanksgiving nite either.

I guess I lived in the stone age. The biggest high tech gadget we had was a microwave and an automatic garage door opener. We didn't need to get a new tv each year either, we had the same old one for 15 years, I begged my parents to finally get one with a remote, that was in 1983!

On Friday after Thanksgiving we would drive about 10 miles to the mall, and shop at Sears and Macy's for clothes, and perfume, maybe a new coat, Dad was always the hardest to buy for, I know we didn't buy irons or toasters or mops thats for sure, and we never ever ran out & got things for the mailman, or the ups man or this person or that person! Sometimes my mom would buy a box of See's candy for ladies at the bank to share. Life was pretty simple, we still baked cookies, our neighbors baked loaves of bread, it wasn't like it is today, we baked, brought over cookies and visited each other during the season and I miss it, even if it was in the 1980's......{#emotions_dlg.mellow}
