OK, all you dog lovers, I need your help.

We adopted a darling dog from the local animal shelter earlier this summer, a 6-8 y/o Shih Zhu/Poodle/Schnauser looking mix. Extremely sweet, very full of life and scamps around like a pup.

Problem is my son so wants the dog to be more "his". I've heard people laugh and say dogs choose their owners, not the other way around, but that's not helping my son who is feeling kinda hurt. The dog sleeps with me, lays on the sofa beside me, etc. If we put him in my son's room, he whimpers and scratches at the door til my son finally gets up and just lets him out.

I've tried ignoring the dog more, letting my son give him treats to 'bribe' the pooch into staying with him, all to no avail. Dog loves to play fetch, etc. with my son and the toys, etc., but when it comes to night time, esp., he wants me.

I'm guessing the previous owner was an older lady (like me).

Help!
