Re: Heat Index 105 this weekend 6/16

@CelticCrafter

I live in north Oxnard, CA - every day of the year is a perfect 10!!!!!!!!!!! Around 45 minutes south of Santa Barbara. Right now, it's 70 degrees at 3:45PM.

50 to 80 degrees all year long - with a slight breeze every day from the ocean. Grew up in Brooklyn, NY - and have never looked back.

@Annabellethecat66

I moved to Southern Maryland in 1973 from Illinois, just east of St. Louis, MO.  Summers were blistering hot with humidity to match.  So, I was used to it by then.

I'm 67 now, and worked in DC for 38 years commuting in and out of town on a bus (nearly 2 hours each way).  Now and then the AC would poop out -- Yikes!

Grew up with nothing but a big window fan turned on only at night.  Cannot ever remember thinking, as a child, that it was "too hot."  We played outside from sun up until dark during the summers.

My objection to the heat now is just the sheer discomfort of sweating and the energy sapping.

Yes, cats do love the heat -- my senior kitty boy is stretched out on the back porch now.

Me, I'm still dreaming of autumn!  Only 3 months to go!

Stay cool!

Re: Heat Index 105 this weekend 6/16

@Witchy Woman Then you know how we all get so sick of politics in this area.  Now we're all called DMV (as in DC, Maryland and Va).  Don't like that either.

People who live outside of the DMV area (say out west more) have no idea of some of the stuff that goes on with the government.

Too much rain?  They just close down the government.  Too much snow...close down the government.

I used to work for the government as does/did just about everyone I know in some form or another.  It's next to impossible to get fired once you work for the government.  Ha!

Yes, I used to travel from Va the beltway to Bolling AFB in Maryland.  Can you believe during the gas crisis I could come all of the way back into Va from Bolling and get gas on my lunch hour and no problem getting back on my lunch brake.  With traffic there is no way I'd be able to that these days!

My daughter (now in Denver) always laughs when people there complain about the traffic.  She says, "You wanna see real traffic?  Move to the D.C. area...that's real traffic".  Ha!

Take care and have a good and safe week ahead.  PS As I sit here Bill the cat sits next to me on the couch in the air conditioning.  His sister Katie the cat is outside on the back porch.  She really likes the heat.  Bill?  Well, I think he's like me....getting soft in his old age!  Ha!  Sweating just takes too much energy!

our high heat here arrived in May instead of late June....Texas heat! The humidity is unbearable, saps your energy, and can be dangerous...staying inside is the place to be when it is so hot

Re: Heat Index 105 this weekend 6/16

Here in Mid-Missouri, we have one more day of excessive heat, with heat indexes over 100.  We had any rain, except for sprinkles that lasted less than 5 minutes a couple or three times.  Poor farmers fields look sad.  We may get a little rain on Wed, but doubt it is enough to help this drought much.

Re: Heat Index 105 this weekend 6/16

It is 92 degrees, heat index 106, humidity 63% - it is HOT

Tomorrow is to be worse if you can believe that.

A friend lives upstate and it is 99 - can't even imagine what the heat index is.

 I could see how black the sky was then there was a tornado reported.

Re: Heat Index 105 this weekend 6/16

At 6:30 this morning it was already 78 degrees. Going into the mid 90's with a heat index in the 105 range. Yikes - definitely a good day to stay inside. We also have a Heat Advisory today until 9 tonight.
