I should add that the best thing to fill you up and keep you going is fiber. I usually maintain a high fiber diet all the time, and I include an afternoon snack.

I don't mind routine, so my snack is usually:

A Fiber One cookie or brownie (90 calories) and,

Half an apple sliced thin.

Right now, my favorite apple are the Ambrosias.

I think it's protein! Fiber is good. Protein keeps one full longer.

Re: Healthy Snack Suggestions Needed -- Pleassssse!!!!

I don't eat large meals during the day, so "snack", every few hours on protein and fruit, nuts, veggies, low fat cheese, etc. it keeps my energy up, and weight under control. I try to watch sugar and sodium, but allow myself a good piece of chocolate if I want. I've been off work last two weeks, and while haven't over ate, not eating my usual way has me in a sleepy funk and up two #'s even with gym daily. So, I know my eating plan works for me!

Re: Healthy Snack Suggestions Needed -- Pleassssse!!!!

So many nice ideas! Thanks so much! Some of these things I would never have thought of. And I appreciate the recipes and websites, too.

I unfortunately cannot eat chocolate of any kind. I wish!

I do eat a lot of fruit. I seem to lack in the vegetable department though. I just can't seem to get excited about them. Especially for snacks. I do eat a salad almost every day.

I keep looking at the kale thing and for some reason, I just can't get myself to try it.

I would like to make myself eat some broccoli and brussel sprouts. I know these vegetables are very good for a person.

If anyone else has any more tips, please post! This is so very helpful to me, and I am sure others here could get some inspiration, as well.

AngelPuppy1, if you are looking to add veggies, we enjoy snacking on sugar peas and baby carrots. Also, if you drink smoothies, you can add greens to your smoothie (I usually do spinach or kale). It will make your smoothie look really ugly, but you can't even taste the greens.

I am not crazy about raw kale either, but if you get baby kale it is more tender and is nice added to soup or a saute. I make broccoli or spinach soup with broth and powdered milk, then emulsify it with an immersion blender, and it is very tasty.

I like brussel sprouts if I blanch them first, then saute them. Or I roast them. Some people add bacon to give them flavor, but I'm not a huge bacon fan, and they have a lot of flavor by themselves.

I love roasted vegetables: beets, carrots, parsnips, sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts, etc. I always make a huge batch and add the leftovers to a salad the next day or just warm them up and eat them.

AngelPuppy1, have you ever eaten edamame? It's a great high protein snack. You can buy it shelled or unshelled and eat it raw or cooked. It is soy protein. To me, it tastes like sweet green peas right out of the garden.

I love roasted or raw veggies. I go easy on fruit as there is a lot of fruit sugar in it, but I do love a sliced apple with peanut butter when I'm hungry. Last night I made plain popcorn and sprayed a little "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" on it...wonderful!

Try steaming your veggies, add a little olive oil and light shake of sea salt. I love broccoli, Brussels, spinach like this! I like to mix with brown rice and add a little grated parm cheese and call it dinner.

Nuts in controlled portions are a great way to stave off hunger. I find that with a quarter cup of nuts or such I'm not hungry for far longer and have more energy than if I ate something sugary.

I'm not suggesting carrots and celery! But can you eat peanut butter off a spoon? How about the "cow" cheese? Even chunk cheese? Yogurt? Fruit? Fruit has it's own sugar. Eat some protein, it helps. I like cashews. I weigh them out.

How much do you weigh out for your cashews?

I am going to buy an electronic scale, I think that would help a lot of us when we want snacks, proportion or weighing items instead of mindless eating (which I do)

I like Beanitos Black Bean chips, I am going to count them out now, need to lose 10ish pounds

Like raw nuts, peanut butter on celery, berries, small orange

Get small bowls/plates & put your snacks on

one ounce.

Thanks, I think that is the answer, control our amounts, that way you do not feel deprived
