My 14 year old hot water heater went out this month, and I had to get a new one. I expected that since it was so old. This afternoon I ran out of hot water while taking a shower. Later I washed my hands and left the hot water running for a while, and it never got hot.
I will call the plumbing company first thing in the morning but have to leave at 9:00 for an eye doctor's appointment. I hope the plumber can come tomorrow afternoon or the next day. I have four medical appointments this week so hope we can work out a time for them to come .
This is especially frustrating because I have not felt good since July. I finally had a colonoscopy last month and got a partial answer but have to have a CT scan with contrast on Wednesday to hopefully find out more. That will probably lead to more tests. In the meantime, I pretty much never feel good.
I am not a complainer and never discuss my health with anyone that I know except my sister. I know no one wants to hear it.
Edited to say: The hot water heater needed to have a heating element replaced. The plumber doesn't know why this happened after three weeks, but it's under warranty of course. He replaced all of the parts to make sure everything was okay. He told me to call him tomorrow after I took my shower and let him know that everything was okay. It's a good brand, Bradford White.

@NickNack You are welcome to discuss your health here any time you wish. Many of us have talked about our health issues or situations.
I hope you will emphasize to the plumber that you have a lot of medical appointments coming up and it is imperative that you have hot water, especially in this weather.
I'm due for my every other year-ly colonoscopy next month. I wish you all the very best.

I would have been super annoyed with the hot water heater not working, are you sure that the temperature knob is not turned down? Yes, I know that's not real specific, I just know that there is a knob that you can turn to get the water to be hotter or colder.
I also just had a hot water heater put in this year, and it was a pain. Mine was over 20+ years old. I remember the Plumbers telling me that they don't make them like that anymore. LOL
I wish you good health with your future doctors appointments.

@NickNack Several years ago when we replaced the water heater I complained about the 'heat'. I wanted it hotter, the plumber would NOT increase the temp, he told me to give it a week and he would come back and increase the temp if I was still unhappy. I was not happy with him.
My husband thought it was OK so I did not have him return but I like my water hot, so, on occasion when doing dishes, I boil water to add to the dishwater, especially if I have greasy dishes to wash.
I hope you find out answers soon on your health issues...and you can always come to these boards to vent..we all do it at times, no harm.

I feel for you. Plumbers who do a good job are hard to find. Doctors who provide quality medical care are even harder to find. Especially if you are a woman health care is hard to come by. It seems doctors spend more time justifying tests than actually treating you. Health Insurances spend Millions for advertising but are reluctant to pay claims. In my area women rarely make it to 70. Most die in their late 50's or early 60's. We have the worst and most expensive health care of any civilized nation. The health of women and reproductive rights are ruled my a bunch of old men who couldn't care less about our health.

@icezeus I just looked up when the hot water heater was put in, and it was 11/23. I thought it was this month but am always off when it comes to dates. It has been plenty hot until today.
I don't like the water to get too hot. I had it scald me when a plumber turned it up one time. After he installed the hot water heater last month I asked him how hot he turned the water to, and he said that he set it on the average setting where they always set them.
I'll bet it was a faulty water heater but who knows.

I don't know if it is a county or state thing but where I live the plumber is not allowed to set the water heater past a certain temp for the safety of the homeowner. The homeowner can, but not the plumber...liability issues.

I had the same thing happen to me last month when I had my water heater replaced. I thought there was something wrong with the new heater because the water was not nearly hot enough. The plumber was only allowed to set it to a certain temp per local code. After the county inspector signed off that the installation was up to code I turned up the temp to make it comfortable for me.
I hope all goes well with your appointments.
