Man trying to board plane with fireworks in his bag shuts down Philadelphia airport
A 29-year-old man was arrested at the Philadelphia airport on Thursday morning after trying to board a plane to San Francisco with fireworks in his carry-on bag.
Joseph Picklo was charged with posession of a destructive device for trying to board a US Airways flight while carrying "several prohibited items" in his bag, "including a water bottle filled with flash powder and M-80 fireworks," according to Transportation Security Administration officials.
"It appears he may have just left the fireworks in his bag from a prior engagement," Philadelphia Police Department Spokeswoman Ofc. Christine O'Brien said.
Picklo was stopped by TSA agents at 5:23 a.m. when the items were detected during a screening of his luggage.
A portion of the airport was shut down for roughly an hour during the incident while the Philadelphia Police Department Bomb Squad investigated the items and removed them from the area.
Picklo remains in police custody.
