I forgot to ask but my friend put pinecone in her fireplace I think. She had me gather some up for her for that purpose but surely she does not put them in her fire?

You can use pine cones for kindling to start a wood fire.

Thank you I did not know that. Well, I gathered up all the good ones for her.........well maybe some more will fall.......

You wouldn't want to use them with Duraflame.

Yes, we've turned it on about twice. Gas fireplace in bedroom.

i may try that in a few weeks! i have a basket full of the smaller ones that i have picked up already that i can use for that but the nice large pine cones i like to use in bowls and baskets. i love how they look and i was shocked at the prices people charge online for them!

Only fireplaces we have are 2 duraflame heaters..lol. Love the ambiance! Id love a fireplace but my husband didn't want a real fireplace. More work and hes asthmatic. Plus he doesn't trust the cats near fire.

Love a wood fire! Remember pine cones create more creosote buildup so don't use them in large numbers.

This would be so nice to have but my bedroom is too small for this heater but I would like to have one.

Re: Have you started your fireplace yet?

We have a gas fireplace in the cabin and turned it on when we were up there for the evening a couple nights ago - beautiful !

Haven't used the wood fireplace in the "big" house yet. Will during the holidays as the kids love it.

A gas fireplace is very handy - and very clean - but will never replace the magic of a wood fire for us. Should we ever get to the point that a wood fireplace is not what we want, there are knockout holes in the firebox to adapt it to gas. Luckily we have acres and acres of woods that have dead trees falling now and then so we have a ready supply of firewood. Could get expensive otherwise.

ETA, The "big" house isn't really that big about 2200 sq ft or so but the cabin is 525 sq ft so that makes the other house "big" by comparison {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

i agree, minkbunny, if I waited till it was 20 degrees outside I would never ever have a fire, and I love to burn logs.Gas just doesn't hold the same magic for me- though I totally understand why it is so popular..

I hear ya ! When we were planning our house, the stone fireplace was a must as was a very wide stone hearth that spanned the entire width of the room - that is where people always want to sit!
