@qualitygal .....yes, do it...however simple but start recording information you know now. You will enjoy doing it. We have a lot of family information on both sides. As mentioned by @fairydogmother...I was also given a subscription to StoryWorth last Christmas so now I am detailing my life story by answering weekly questions. I may not have done it otherwise.
@GenXMuse....I am very sorry to hear that your mother recently passed away. @on the bay made a good suggestion about writing some things down in tribute to your mom. Be comforted with good memories.

@on the bay Yes it was odd when we were going through her things but I put it on the back burner for months.
I had a weird dream a few nights ago with my mom driving somewhere....we were going shopping. I woke up and suddenly remembered those photos. I plan on mentioning them to my brother when I speak with him over the weekend.
All I can think of is that she either had a cousin that looked a lot like her...or a sister that something happened and they kept it a secret...but that it too weird!

@haddon9 ...that certainly is a mystery. There are so many research sites that help with genealogy searches now. You could probably do family research that might give you answers. Good Luck!

Only thing I'm leaving is all my "stuff" and about 500 years of genealogy records.
If any of them are interested - the data is on Ancestry and all the backup documents are in the red binders in the bookcases.

ETA: A couple of weeks ago - a cousin contacted me for info on "cause of death" for female members of one family line .... I have copies of all the death certificates and they all know I have all the stuff.

@walker Thanks I think I will see if I can find out anything.
I have a cousin who I don't speak to very often but his father (mom's brother) was really into genealogy and I might get in touch with him.

No, I don't think anyone cares. People don't care about "family" anymore.

Since we have no human children? There will no family coming after me. Heck, if I went through all my posts here over the years(novellas), they would cover a big portion of most aspects of my life.
Other than that, my note writing will just be to remind me of something, or add to our grocery list.

Wow, thanks for all your responses, I think even if no one after me cares about them, it'll be fun to remember all those things in my past. It was good.

Yes, I actually wrapped this up years ago on dads side of the family.
Mailings went out at Christmas to cousins on moms side of the family with the latest genealogy findings. All the blanks are filled in now and the mysteries solved.
I also sent extensive genealogy information to my husbands cousins recently.
At this point, I am satisfied with the information I have, and have nothing else to dig for. My daughters and nephew are the end of the line for our family, and are not interested in this information now, but it's available when they do start looking into the past.

Unfortunately, I am the one tasked with turning out the light.
