Re: Have you found people in public doing nice things lately?

I've had to think about this... I haven't actually been in public for months.  The kids who put my curbside-pickups in my car trunk always say hello, but I've never seen their faces because of their masks.

I really need to get out more!

Have you been to a grocery store or supermarket lately?

Yes,  we were in drive through line at Chick- Fil -A and the car in front of us paid for  our sandwich order and the  car behind us to  !  That was really  unexpectedly   nice after we had spent the day doing hours of volunteer work  helping needed people . We  wanted to thank the person , but they  drove through before we had a chance .  We plan to  pay it forward next time we are at Chick-Fil-A.

I don’t really think I’ve seen any changes in people at this time. Some of the items noted by OP - holding the door for someone and letting people in for traffic situations - have always been things I take for granted and I live in a big city!! However, a few years ago in a “what annoys you” thread, I commented on how much I dislike when someone doesn’t let you merge in traffic for accidents, etc, and someone commented that they have no obligation to do so! So, I guess there are places that don’t do that. Just seems like common curtesy to me and am used to it more often than not.

When bad things happen, you always see the good in people. But, I’m sorry to say, that IMO Covid has particularly brought out the bad.

Yes I have. Just like after 9/11. People seem to act nicer when things go south....at least for a while.

People doing nice things for other people is not a geographical or regional thing, personally I find the attitude that it is to be stereotyping and sometimes snobbish.

There are nice people everywhere, there are unkind people everywhere. Utopia does not exist, except in one's own mind. A mindset sometimes influenced by prejudice.

Oh, I thought of something!   My son told me he stopped at a restaurant to have dinner on his way home from work one night last week.  He was alone.  So he ate his dinner and went to the cashier to pay his bill.  The cashier told him he didn't need to pay.  She told him that a couple had already paid for his meal.  He asked "who?" because he wanted to thank them.  The cashier told him the couple had already left the restaurant and were long gone.
