Re: Have you ever wondered how you know some of what you know?

My good grammar skills come from being a good student in school.

Fortunately, I enjoyed English classes and had some very good teachers with excellent tutorial skills. I also remember that many teachers focused on spelling, grammar and correct pronunciation. As a writer I'm still learning, even today.

Re: Have you ever wondered how you know some of what you know?

Things constantly change...sometimes better sometimes not....and not everyone adapts well to change..in fact most people are quite resistant to change....with that said...languages change all the time....and in a world where cultures mix together on the scale we see today around the world it is no surprise to see languages changing and blending.

What is proper english?....I asure you even the perceived ""proper"" is quite different from how it was spoken and written 100 years ago...or 200 years ago....and even further back. Imagine still speaking/writing like they did in the shakespearean days....or better yet....imagine someone from the shakespearean days trying to grasp how much the english language has changed in our modern world....I'm sure there was /gasps and tongue clucking going on for centuries everytime a word changed/evolved into something new and became acceptable.....I still remember the gasps and scoldings over the use of the word ain't yet here is is in our modern day dictionary and commonly used by many.

As for proper letter formatting....when was the last time anyone sat down and wrote a formal letter for anything? Even cursive writing has fallen to the wayside. These things will eventually be discussed by future generations as ""ways of the past"".

Excerpt from lyrics of song:

" ... It ain't necessarily so
It ain't necessarily so
The t'ings dat yo' li'ble
To read in de Bible,
It ain't necessarily so..."

Sorry, I just couldn't resist. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}
