.....that you can't shake it and it actually depresses you. About three days ago I read a story on a precious little girl who was horribly abused in Arizona (I won't go into detials because it is very distrubing - google if you want but be warned) and I can't stop thinking about this baby girl. I could not sleep the night I read about it and I've been very down since then. I've actually called the center where they are treating her but they told me and I read yesterday that they can't accept donations on her behalf. Apparently donations and calls of offers to help have been pouring in from all over the country (thank God for good people). I know that unfortuntely these things happen way to often, but still it breaks my heart and I feel unsettled about her suffering. I just wonder how you handle horrible news?

Unfortunately, yes. Any time I see something about animals being hurt, or worse, it just takes me down - all the way. It probably doesn't help that I have PTSD and clinical depression, but there is a huge part of my heart where animals go without being filtered through all the trauma or anxiety - any of that.
Animals touch me so deeply that I just cannot see or hear about them being hurt by, let's face it, 99.9999% at the hands of humans to boot.

Yes, me too. The way animals are treated in our society and the world really affect me deeply. I've found that the Serenity Prayer and praying to God asking for help with this helps me cope with these things. I sincerely hope this helps you.

I live in Phoenix, AZ and that story was unbelievable. I can only hope that with time she will get better and find a loving home. Relatives of her mother were interviewed and they said had no idea this was happening. They said whenever they asked about the girl her mother said she's fine. I don't have children and would have loved to have a daughter. God Bless her!

I read that too. I pray they keep the baby far, far away from this family. I don't trust any of them.

I'm sorry about your depression and PTSD. Definitely be careful about what you read as you don't want to be upsetting yourself too much - I know hard to do in today's society.

Stories of child abuse or animal abuse haunt me for a long time after I read it or see it. It is very disturbing.
