Have you customized masks

[ Edited ]

It occured to me that masks are made from a standard pattern. Some fit well some do not.

I went ahead and added metal nose peices to several masks I have I will also be adding cord locks to the ears to further adjust my masks

Re: Have you customized masks

Masks we purchased-the loops are a tad large on my ears.  I have to use a "bobby pin" to secure the loop to my hair.

Some of my homemade masks-I have heavy yarn to secure at the top and bottom-I pull as tightly as I need to eliminate any opening.  It's too hot now to wear them, though.

I also made some with bandanas-I use 2 hair elastics so that they are not too tight.

Overall I'm happy with all 3 designs; just have to adjust for my comfort.

I don't use any metal nose pieces on my homemade masks because I can adjust them with the yarn and the hair elastics.

Re: Have you customized masks

Nope. I really don't have any interest in customizing face masks. I bought 100 of the standard ones for my family. I accept that I must wear a mask. To me it's not a fashion statement. It's a medical necessity.

Masks IMO aren't attractive no matter what they look like. They are annoying & uncomfortable. They don't dress up an outfit. They smear my makeup. But for the sake of my health & the health of others I will most definitely continue to wear one.

@NicksmomESQ, I couldn't have said it better myself!   I wear them out of necessity, not a fashion statement.

Since I'm a Red Hatter, I did buy a red one and a purple one in March only to realize my chapters aren't even meeting due to everything  being closed or not allowing groups to meet.

So sorry I went beyond buying the traditional ones everybody wears which are more expensive than a pack I bought a few years ago when we were removing some plaster from the ceiling.  Every Covid-19 related item is jacked up in price.  It's sad that companies are allowed to do this.

@NicksmomESQ  @Mmsfoxxie I believe the OP is referring to customizing for FIT, not for what the mask will look like.

Mine are made out of t-shirts and bandanas, hardly designer worthy.  LOL

My "blue" masks I have to use a bobby pin to pin the loops to my hair-the loops are a tad large for my ears.

She mentions the metal strips and using cords to adjust her fit, not fancy material.

My bad, @I am still oxox.  Sorry, I misunderstood.

But, I'm have seen statements about fashions in masks.  I guess that was in my head and confused with your post.  And I'm not saying it's bad to do a fashion statement.  It's all in where you want your money to go and how much expendable money you have.

@Mmsfoxxie I bought masks from Johnny Was because they were pretty.  They also satisfied my requirements for a cloth mask.  It was $25 for five masks.  That's how they sell them.

That was very cheap.  For me it's a fashion statement.  It's just a plus that they were so cheap.

This isn't about politics:  Nancy Pelosi manages to look stylish and coordinated with her masks (and when not in place, they hide her neck--a plus for any older woman).

I can use the blue/white medical masks comfortably.  Well, as comfortably as possible anyway.    They also "breath" better than fabric.
