It's our Christmas break! I come back January 3rd 2022...When you work for a university, you have to be there when the students are there. When they aren't....you get off.

Because I work for a public university, I'm considered a state employee. So when state holidays come around (Veterans Day, etc.) we move them later for Christmas week. So you don't use your personal holidays. The bonus extra day is for Christmas eve. It's strange because my sister is also state employee (she's a social worker) she has to take them off, when they come around.

I work for the County and work hand in hand with one of my co-workers. Basically, we do the same job but one of us always has to be available so we take turns at Christmas time. I have had this current week off in which Thursday and Friday (Christmas) were county holidays.
Next week he will have the week off with Thursday and Friday being county holidays. (New Years)
The best part is that both of only had to use three days of vacation to get a solid 9 days off.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

That's a neat arrangement you and your co-worker have! Fair and beneficial to both!
Merry Christmas to you and yours!

@KingstonsMom @icezeus @meallen616 Best thing in the world (I think) working for a university. You get great health and dental benefits (the state's) plus your child can go to the university for free! Your child has to qualify of course, but that one benefit convinced me stay to work there (after my graduation) I think it's the same set up for any land grant university (Public) It's called tuition remission. It also includes any member of your immediate family, or yourself. So my child will be able to go there for free. One co-worker of mine used that to get her Masters in Education to work as a teacher. She plans to use it after she retires from working at the university.
